Scores on Retakes?

Post by bohemiandaisy » Sun Jul 27, 2014 3:32 am

Asked this question before, but I need more opinions.

I just got a 177 on PT 67 in a proctored environment. :D I don't know how accurate this score is since I've taken the test before (out of takes!) and know the infamous zones game very very well (drilled it at least 10 times). But hey, I guess my logic is still dead on and I'll blind review later.

RC -1
LR -3 (-1 for not bubbling due to time)
LG 0

So my question is: how happy should I be? It's a retake, so realistically, this is an inflated. I took it in early May the first time and scored a 166.

I seem to be scoring only in the 170s now. Probably because these are all retakes! My lowest score is a 173. Am I basically screwed for Sept? :(

I wouldn't say you're screwed. Given the amount of time that has passed between the two takes, I'm sure you still had to rely on your understanding of the actual reasoning in each question and passage. To that end, you should now ensure your reasoning is solid. Have you tried reviewing questions with the goal of being able to explain them to someone else? To be able to explain exactly why each answer choice is right or wrong? For the games, re-doing them definitely helps, but make sure you understand why the setup works; don't think to yourself, "Oh, I did this game before and set it up this way." Focus on the inferences and how the rules interact with one another, so that in case an unusual game that might require an unfamiliar setup shows up in September, you aren't screwed because it doesn't match perfectly with one you've already done.

Also, do you have any remaining tests that you haven't taken?

I can't speak to logic games which I do think are inflated once I do them again, but for logical reasoning I actually sometimes have to try harder on attempting questions again because I have to avoid using my biases to answer the questions. Especially if I've gotten it wrong before, I get confused and really have to attack the question as if I've never seen it before in order to get it correctly. It's tempting to bubble what seems familiar, but I've found that when I do that I get it wrong. So just really force yourself to go through the steps of answering questions, and not just answering them from memory. Like it was mentioned above, understand your process and explain why the answer you've selected is the credited response.
