Best cost-efficient study materials?

Post by SoapyIllusion » Tue Jul 08, 2014 8:26 pm

So I am retaking the LSAT in September. So far my study materials owned are as follows:

Manhattan Logical reasoning
Logical Games Bible

Reading Comp is my strong suit hence the lack of a study book.

I am looking at the retakers guide by Noodley and under the recommended materials he includes the bundles of logical reasoning questions organized by question type (Cambridge) but it is $80. I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to go about purchasing the materials or an alternate path. Also, which prep tests are most essential?

TLDR: If I am looking to not spend a ton of money, where and what should I purchase for logical reasoning questions based on type, and which practice tests should I purchase specifically? Keeping in mind I am retaking in September and am weak in logical reasoning and in the games section slightly.

I think it is better to do the LR questions by section so you can find out what kind of errors you make, and some of those types aren't really helpful in trying to practice on some of the mistakes, while for other mistakes you can practice on many different types of questions. In old days, there were questions where you were given 1 stimulus and asked 2 questions, most of them are different types of questions, which demonstrates that for LR, it is much more important to practice argument evaluation/understand stimulus, than practice "tricks" for each question type.
Although LRs have some changes over the years, the same logical skills are being tested, so you can benefit from all LRs since June 1991, although the more recent ones have better predictability to your score.

Here is a list of all the available LSAT PrepTests

The Official LSAT SuperPrep: The Champion of LSAT Prep

Tests # 51 (June 07) Available free on lsac.org

June 2014 LSAT (Test # 72) available soon. I think you can pay and then download it on some websites.

If you are determined to do every single available LSAT question, and have money to burn (because it is completely unnecessary), buy The Official LSAT Prep Test with Explanations Volume 1, which contains some of the tests that are available on the above list, but also has Feb 1997 LSAT, which is not available anywhere else.

Great advice so far! At the moment, I am thinking about purchasing the "10 Real LSATS Grouped by Question Type" by Manhattan and purchasing a few recent practice tests from cambridge. I would drill the LR questions with the manhattan book since it is by question type and then take the practice tests accordingly while reviewing logic game explanations on 7sage if I get confused. Is that a good plan?

TLDR: Is it a good idea to buy "10 Real LSATS Grouped by Question Type" from Manhattan to drill LR, a few recent practice tests from Cambridge to take afterwards and then review logic game explanations that confuse me on 7sage? Keeping in mind that I have only a little under 2 months to study.

If you live in a larger city, try Craigslist.
