Retaking the lsat fourth times a charm ??

Post by Sm446636 » Mon Jul 07, 2014 9:27 am

Hey Guys ,I wanted to see if anyone has any advice for me . I need to take the lsat a fourth time. As of June 2011 LSAC requires you to write a letter to the LSAC board explaining why you feel that they should permit you to take it a 4th time within a 2 year time period. I was misinformed and thought It was a 1 year period . Unfortunately I didn’t do as well as I thought I would without any professional tutoring / classes( I prepped on my own with books ) I plan on now taking a prep course if I can get approved to take it again. Has anyone been able to get approval from LSAC board to do this? I desperately need some advice on how to compose this letter.Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat as well. Anyone who successfully appealed?

I'd be appealing to lsac but don't want to submit a letter with a reason that's auto-reject.

Why do you need to take it now instead of waiting for your time to elapse?

Do not want to miss the cycle and my current scores are too low to apply.

Next year. More than a year away.

Lsac changed the policy in June 2011, but can the school waiver still help? it has been 3 years since the policy change but the data about this appeal is little.

I can't afford to wait as I wouldn't be able to take it until December of 2015 . I would like to take it this year.

I don't believe a school appeal would be sufficient as that is what they replaced with this new rule of writing a letter to the LSAC board directly

You took it THREE times when you weren't prepared. I mean, c'mon. Not to be an ass but you didn't realize you weren't prepared until THREE takes, or 9+ months?! t don't think there is much you can do outside of blatant lying (don't).

It's a safe assumption when you read...

I would assume that this is something you would think after taking it once. I find it hard to believe that after THREE takes someone finally realizes that taking a class or getting a tutor is right for them.

In addition, and I could be totally wrong (I really don't think I am), I don't think LSAC is going to give you a 4th take because you "didn't study effectively" and as that is the only alibi that the OP has.

op if u really feel like u wish u had studied more and you can't get LSAC to give u another take, you should consider studying really hard for your next legal take and see what score you get. U may not necessarily get a 180 but you will at least feel relieved that u did all that u could do.

Thank you to those who actually gave me advice. I appreciate it.

It's not that I didn't prepare . I need to get an extremely good score to increase my options of schools to get into. What really messed me up was that one of my very close friends suddenly died a few months prior to the third exam I took. Not to mention there was also a fire drill in the middle of the test that threw me off which took an hour to resolve. I just need some help from someone who successfully appealed to take it a fourth time and to give insight on how to go about the letter . Maybe no one has ever been able to. ?

To the ones who made rude, unnecessary comments:this forum is solely to give and receive good, friendly feedback that we can all actually benefit from. So you can take your impertinence somewhere else.if you must be on this thread, why don't you share with the rest of us your story on how you did exceedingly well on the exam ? Did you enroll in a prep course ? What were some of your study methods that you felt helped you tackle the logic games portion as well as the RC? How did you so successfully manage the timing aspect of the exam and get through each and every one of the questions? Please do tell us.

The bold above is the best grounds you have for requesting an exception to the three times/two years rule and could work. I've heard anecdotally that a few people have been granted an extra take due to extreme/irregular testing conditions. Did you send a complaint email/report to LSAC about the test center disturbance after the administration about the fire drill?

Is it the fire drill at a test center from last year that several people posted about here? If so, you might be in good shape to have a fighting chance of getting approved since that sounded like a nightmare and I'm pretty sure LSAC knows about that day of disaster at that test center due to complaints and proctor reports.

Give it a try, I think horrible testing conditions during one of your takes is a pretty good justification, hopefully LSAC agrees. GL!
