Should I retake the LSAT

Post by floridaxrose » Thu Jul 03, 2014 9:33 am

I took a testmasters course, I put the hours in my highest PT was 167- averaging 165.
I got a 163 on the June 2014 LSAT and my GPA is 3.95.
I have been reading and most don't jump two or three points unless they failed to study not my case.
Not sure if I have theoretically reached the "cap" each individual has or if I can get to 170+ range.
I also plan on attending UF and have more than the numbers I need to go there.
The only was I could consider my dream Columbia, NYU, or Harvard is with significant financial assistance.
I am hispanic not sure if that qualified as a URM? But I have read about 163's getting into these schools, one person out of a batch so just not sure.

Common wisdom on TLS (whatever that means) is that you should retake. Hispanic background does qualify as a URM status, so even having a 5 point bump in your score could mean acceptance to those dream schools and $$.

UF isn't a bad option if you have substantial scholarship and plan to practice law in Florida. http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/florida/2013/

Yeah I just keep reading if you studied - and I did for 3-4 months many hours-it may not be a good idea.

For what it's worth, I studied about the same amount before I took the exam for the first time and I managed to improve my score by 7 points on a retake.

Check out the guides posted in this forum. One of the strategies listed could introduce you to a new way of approaching difficult question types. I know it helped me.

Yeah I think because so many say yes- I should - just not sure where to start now since so many hours have been put in.

You're in a good spot now OP. Retake if you want HYS or more money at CCN.

The Manhattan LSAT books are really good LR and RC. Even after studying for several months, I learned new strategies from them. Granted, I don't know what was included in the Testmasters course, so they may not be as useful for you, but I'd recommend giving them a shot.
