Cancel? AND what to do until June 2014 score is released?

Post by yunjh1066 » Thu Jun 12, 2014 1:23 pm

Hi guys,

I am still in the midst of deciding whether to cancel my score. I definitely didn't do well compared to my usual PTs (due to RC and LG section that were more troublesome to me than usual). So...I am expecting low 150... hopefully not in 140s. I score mid 150s and just 160 on PTs. I know TLS has soooo many people doing so well on their LSATs but I am planning to retake in September and study hard...

I was just going to keep my score because I know I will do better on my next one... (lol hopefully but I mean this June one was pretty extreme from what I hear so if I just do how I do on my PTs then it will definitely be better in September). I thought canceling and then having a score in September vs. having a score around 150 in June and hopefully an increase in September, isn't that big of a difference.

Any thoughts?

Also, what should I be doing until my score comes? I was told that I should just take a break until the score release. Any tips?

Thanks guys.

I wouldn't cancel. Everybody thinks they did worse on the real thing, and it's not always the case. Unless you know you completely messed up (misbubbling an entire section, leaving questions unfinished) I'd keep it. I'd just do anything to keep your mind off the LSAT until you get your score. Until then, no point about thinking about something you can't control or preparing for something that might not even happen.

Thanks guys. Yeah I think I would keep the score. I honestly don't think Law school cares so much as to how many we take, whether we canceled, and whether the first score was horrible as long as we get a good score on your 2nd or 3rd right?

I mean, that's what everyone said with SAT, freaking out that you should only take in once but as long as you get a score, it doesn't even matter...

but yes, thanks guy. I didn't do like horrible like missing a bubble or running out of time (except in RC...as I said, I guessed quiet a few but I do that on my PTs too).

This. Also, you can always take the test again if it turns out you didn't do so well. There's a lot of anecdotal evidence that as long as you don't take the test 10 times, schools really only care about your highest score these days.

Hey I'm in the same exact boat as you! My first diag test was a 138. My highest PT was a few days before the exam at a 163. I went into the test with major potential and felt dejected after the test was over. Was in shock for the rest of the day and woke up the next morning knowing I would cancel my score. After putting much more thought into it, I decided to leave the score. Maybe I'll do better than I thought, maybe worse, but it isn't worth the risk of canceling and then finding out I reached the score of my highest PT, god forbid better. My first diag I took blind, never seeing a practice problem before. I enrolled in a course and that helped a bunch. I'm currently about to order tons of self-study material (preptests, cambridge drills, LR and LG bible, and Man RC) and follow pithy pikes guide and hopefully by september be scoring in the mid to high 160's consistently. I would suggest to not cancel, and just start studying sometime soon for the next exam if you have the potential to raise your score- if you want to take it in September, that is. From what I've read, the consensus is that schools don't generally care if you scored low on previous tests so be it that you actually got the score they are looking for.

Okay i think today would be my last day to make a decision.

Maybe I should add more details as to how I did it. I guessed that one whole LG game (the last game). I guessed like two questions on the 1st game too (which I did after looking at the fourth game and panicking about it -_-).

LRs were just the usual... I usually get about 7 wrong.

RC... I've been just not doing so well on the RCs as I did PTs of recent tests. So idk... I probably did bad on RC too since I did better on the experimental section but the real section, the passages were hard to comprehend...

I know for sure that I did worse than my usual PTs...

Cancel?!!!!
