Cancel Score or Naw?

Post by SoapyIllusion » Mon Jun 02, 2014 4:10 pm

So I am taking the LSAT next week and I originally had planned to study all throughout this spring semester (that didn't work out) and unfortunately due to time constraints I had not been able to study as much as I would have liked. This is partially due to me focusing on my grades and salvaging my GPA (just got my grades back for 16 units, straight A's!!!).

Anyways, I got through the logic games bible and almost consistently score -0s on practice tests and I am halfway through the manhattan logical reasoning book and I am doing extremely well. Even prior to opening the logical reasoning book I rarely missed questions of this subject during "cold testing" and believe LR is my natural strength. The problem is, I have not even addressed the RC section nor own any book dedicated to RC prep.

As of now, I am thinking of just taking the LSAT, if not for gaining experience and familiarity with the exam, and canceling my score if I feel like I struggled.

TLDR:
My question is, should I keep my score regardless to see how I did, or should I cancel if I feel I struggled? Obviously I am aiming for the T14 with NYU being my #1 choice and I feel I would be at a disadvantage if I did not cancel my score if I felt I did horrible since they apparently average LSAT scores.

Another question: do law schools know if you cancel a score?

what are you averaging on your pt's? the fact you're already asking what happens on a cancel seems to me if you're not ready. you should already be familiar with the exam come exam time.

163-166 not anywhere near where I would like to be and most say it is typical to score slightly lower than the score that is PTed. I'm just wondering if a 163, 168+ would look better than a CANCEL, 168+, especially for NYU since they claim to average the LSAT.

LSAT averaging is dead check out LSN - plenty of people had 160 - 162 - 17x and got into Harvard Law this cycle - and yet Harvard still audaciously claims to "average." For all intensive purposes averaging is a moribund practice - unless your score is dreadful do not cancel.
