RC EMERGENCY!

Post by pizzicatodreams » Sat May 24, 2014 8:57 pm

Hey everyone,

So, as the June test approaches, I've been doing pretty well on PTs, but one issue has started to pop up: I've been running out of time on RC!

Now, it may just be because I recently started doing RC sections with comparative reading, but it's alarming nonetheless.

Does anyone have any really good tips or strategies on how to cut down time on the RC section of the exam?

Thanks! :)

Also, the 4th Edition of Manhattan LSAT is worth a read.

I had similar problem. The only solution for me was to simply go faster.

I would also recommend the Manhattan RC book. Don't know if it will specifically help your speed, but its good reading for RC in general.

I've heard that this works for some folks. I have not tried it yet, though.

Was looking at your old posts and noticed that you got a -1 in RC on your first PT back in 2011, how are you struggling with time still? Seemed like you were solid years ago.

Haha nice forensic work on your part. I was studying for the LSAT the summer of my sophomore year but ultimately decided not to take it for a number of reasons. Graduated in 2013 and have been studying pretty intensely for the past few months. And anyway, as I said, my RC has been pretty strong. I've only recently run into the timing issues, which has been stressful given how close the exam is!

As for the other posts, thanks for the heads up! :)

As far as timing issues go on RC I had the same problem as you. Found out that I usually lost a significant portion of my time deciding between main point answer choices. As a rule of thumb if you can't decide between two answers then pick the one with the safest language (most wiggle room), flag the question so if you have time left over you can give it another attempt, and move on. All questions are worth the same amount.

I personally found comparative passages to be easy points. After reading the first passage I would mark the margins of the second passage with a star or a circle when I found similarities and differences respectively.

Also, check this link http://lsatblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/ls ... egies.html This guy has really helpful tips for RC.

You only recently started studying with comparative reading passages?

Yes, as I didn't want to use up the newer, more relevant material way before the test

Comparative reading started at PT 52. How many of the PTs since then have you done? Where I'm going with this: just now starting that level of RC prep makes me wonder if you're far enough in your prep to justify taking June.

I can totally see why you might think that that's the case, but other than the recent minor drop from the Comparative Reading passages, I've been doing pretty well on RC overall. So far I've done all of the PTs through PT 55 and, at the pace I've been going, will have done all of them through 71 by the exam. I really can't imagine putting this off any longer!

Thanks for all the tips everyone :)
