Preptest 70 Section 1 #13 (LR)

Post by june2014 » Tue May 06, 2014 2:14 am

I get how (B) is the answer but I'm not exactly sure how to put in words why (E) is incorrect.
Can anyone explain why (E) is wrong?

The argument is only about the cause and effect relationship between the promotional advertisements for a show aired before the show starts that are used to pump it and the type of people that decide to watch the first episode of the show because they saw the TV promo commercials and thought it might be the type of show they would like.

The issue being whether the type of people the promo ads the network wants to use will attract will actually end up liking the first episode and continue to watch the show or be disappointed and not continue to watch it because the first episode turned out to be a different type of show than the promo ads made it look like it was going to be versus whether the promo ads the producers of the show want to use would be more likely to attract people that will like the first episode and continue to watch it.

(E) is about the total population of people that become loyal viewers of the show, which is much larger/broader in scope than what the argument is focused on, and therefore not at all relevant or necessary since the argument is only about the cause and effect relationship between promo ads being considered for launching a new show and the type of people those ads will cause to watch the first episode that launches the series. Loyal viewers are irrelevant since the conclusion is only focused on the people the promo ads cause to watch the first episode and their like/hate reaction to it based on expectations generated by the promo ads.

E is a most statement. The negation of a most statement is "half". This almost never has any effect, no matter WHAT the answer choice is talking about.

Someone asked me about this on my explanation for this question, and I go into more detail here:

(The original explanation for E is not that great)
