ADVICE FOR TLS

Post by ollibear2011 » Mon Apr 21, 2014 2:42 am

Hello everyone!

I've used this forum as a study resource the past few months and often been frustrated with the quality of advice. Today I came across an blog by Laura Santoski (BP Laura) that addresses this issue.

http://blueprintprep.com/lsatblog/law-s ... on-boards/

Have the powers-that-be at TLS thought about solving this problem? It would be great if legitimate study tools (such as BP's "extravaganza" thread) were stickied at the top of the forum. Also, the avatars of reps from legit companies should be highlighted in some way (like the mods), so they're distinguished from wannabe tutors and the mass of posters who have no clue.

I can't understand why a test prep company would be so upset at a forum that does their job for free.

I still visit those forums occasionally, but now I read them to laugh at the bad advice being posted.
The lsat prep advice on TLS is invaluable. It has likely saved applicants hundreds of thousands of dollars in law school debt. Like, for real.

It's not TLS's job to promote LSAT prep companies or their tutors.

Advice on TLS is bad. Because, well, it is bad. And you shouldn't listen to bad advice. Therefore you shouldn't listen to TLS. Because its advice is bad.

Ha - I'm always a little surprised when I find out that someone has been reading a blog post I wrote. Better enjoy my 15 minutes in the spotlight while I can.

Anyway, I certainly didn't mean to say that advice on TLS is useless. Especially now that I've spent more time around here, I can see firsthand how much good advice is being offered. That said, I do think there's a bit of an echo chamber effect, particularly when it comes to admissions advice. There's TLS "gospel" that everyone believes is true because it's repeated over and over, and as with any time you're taking advice from strangers with unknown qualifications, it's healthy to do so with a grain of salt. I have a lot of respect for the people who spend so much time here helping others out and certainly didn't mean to offend.

Genuinely interested in what advice you are referring to, and specifically what about that advice is, as you put it, so bad that u read it to laugh at it ...
