Interesting. I wish we could see what percentage of those are retakers vs. first time takers. If an unusually large percentage of testers are retakers, it could actually suggest that the recent trend of people taking the LSAT/Law school more seriously is continuing, as retaking in February is often done for scholarship negotiation purposes. On the other hand, a significant increase in first time takers may indicate a return to the past.

with so many schools extending their deadlines to accept the Feb test (eg harvard and columbia), I wouldnt be surprised if there were more retakers than normal.

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that 175+ is now a larger proportion of test takers meaning that it will no longer by 99th% and instead 175 will drop to 98.Xth % or that the actual volume of 175+ scores is increasing while overall test taker volume is dropping or both? I'm confused about the math with what you're saying.

I hope people don't start applying in droves again! Everyone could start thinking, "This is my shot to get into a school that belies my numbers."

ha ha, I don't think there is a way to stop people from thinking that!

Whenever the tide does start to rise again, it will obviously be driven by people realizing that admissions standards at many schools have slightly lowered. However, I wouldn't worry about a sudden flood up to record levels any time soon, it will take several years of data proving the change to get a consensus going in mainstream common knowledge to drive a big influx of new interested potential applicants. Word about this is only common knowledge on TLS and in other law school resources not known or frequented by people not already seriously interested in LS. It'll take a while for news to get out to the general public and become mainstream knowledge.
