i am not fully understanding basic linear? or should i be getting mostly -0 or -1 before I move on to linear advanced games?

Depends on when the test is/what you have already covered... if you have time, you should nail the basic linear. If you don't and you still have to learn every other type of LG, you might want to move on.

But, in theory, no.
