How easy to raise a score with self study? Forum

I took a practice LSAT without study and received a 167. If I have until the June 2013 LSAT for self study, do you think it is very possible to pull my score up to at least a 175?

I apologize if similar questions are posted a lot, but any input would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Was it a timed test?

Yes, it was a Kaplan administered practice test, timed and structured just like the official LSAT, excluding the writing sample. It was also a released official test from several years ago.

I would reccomend self study. If you are actually in the Kaplan program now (and didnt jsut take a free diagnostic or something) and can get your money back do it because imo you wont get your moneys worth with a score already that high.

I recomend the 3 Powerscore bibles (1 for each test section, purple, green, blue) and others would reccomend Manhattan LSAT books, especially for RC.

Well a 167 is a wonderful starting point and you can certainly get to a 175 by June with solid prep.

With a starting score like that, I wouldn't spend money on a prep course. Manhattan LSAT and PowerScore sell wonderful prep guides if any particular section is giving you any trouble.

I would strongly advise against taking a prep course, particularly a live one. You'll be taking the class with a lot of people starting in 140s or 150s, and it will probably be an inefficient use of time. If you think you need one, do an online course (like Blueprint's or another).

It's hard to say whether you'll be at 175 or not by June; I know people who've gone from 150s to 175 and people who've started around 170 and only gone up a couple points. It really depends mostly on how much time you put in and where your weaknesses are. Which sections did you lose points in? That would probably assist more in determining how attainable 175 by June is.

RC was my best area. AR is where I have the most room for improvement as far as correct answers, and the problem with LR was the time.

If you scored a 167 and had the most trouble with logic games, you're in a good spot. Pick up the Manhattan Logic Games guide and profit.
