Re: for anyone who's scored 170+
Of course mathmatically it is possible to guess on 10 to 12 questions and still get a 170 depending on the curve if you got everything else correct. But to answer the question you are asking, you have to ask yourself how you normally perform. Do you tend to know exactly what questions will be wrong when the test is over? Do you tend to think you answered questions wrong a lot only to see that they were right?BitterSplitter wrote:Did any of you have multiple questions you had to guess on? I am asking because I guessed on 6 questions on the dec lsat a couple days ago, but feel rather good about the rest of the test. Also, if you did have to guess and still got a 170+, what was your avg PT leading upto the actual test and did you have to guess questions on any of the PTs? THanks
Another crucial piece of info is to define "guess". Did you literally not read the question and just guess a letter? If you did, and guessed the same letter throughout, I would assume you got 1 of the 6 correct by luck.

You should be fine. And do not take that -8 curve to heart I remember that one. You are probably looking at -10 for this test, but LSAC is due a -11 soon so you may be in extra good standing.
Above all else, worrying about it wont change anything so take a deep breathe and distract yourself with applicatins untill scores come out.

you could still crack the 170s with -6 plus a few unanticipated errors. sounds like youre pretty confident about the qs you answered, which is deff a good sign.
ive never straight up guessed a random letter, but i imagine thats a rough feeling after never running out of time on a PT.
keep warm during your long cold wait.

You should know a lot better than us. If you made a habit of doing extremely well in RC then you still have a shot. There weren't too many head-scratchers in the LR for this one so that's really what it comes down to.

Re: for anyone who's scored 170+
I think I totally guessed (no time left in LG) on 3 in June and did a mental coin flip on two or three in LR (narrowed it down to 2/3 answers but was running out of time), and I ended up with a 170 (a few unanticipated RC errors).
I guessed on one in RC (out of time) and did a coin flip on another in LG in October and ended up with a 177. I felt much worse about the rest of the test that time, but I suspect part of that came with the experience I gained in gauging my success through more studying.
Average PTs for round one were about 173, average for round two about 178. I still had to guess sometimes on PTs even with those scores, usually because of running out of time on a game or dawdling too much on RC.
The fact that your PTs were retakes probably inflated your average score, but you sound as though you might still be in good shape for a 170+. Don't worry too much - the tests I retook only bumped me a few points above average, with my only 180 coming on a retake (and barely so, still missed a couple). May your wait be much shorter than ours in October, and good luck!
edit for typos, whoops.

I don't guess.
