Can anyone top this? Let's hear some horror stories!

Post by phillykid » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:01 pm

So I get to the test center wait about 15 min. The proctor appears and announces that we're going to separate into 3 different rooms. So I go to my room and there is no AC. So I was mad but not freaking out. Then as the proctor is reading the instructions (and the windows are open or it would have been 100 in there) we hear construction outside...they were cutting wood with a saw!!! One kid in particular was freaking out and let the proctor know he wasn't going to take the test in such an environment (of course no one objected). After about 20 min of confusion we were moved to another building in the basement. We got down there and began shortly. I purposely drank little water in the morning and pee'd numerous times prior to the test. But with the 30-35 min delay I had to pee soooooo bad by section 3 I literally couldn't think. So I stared at the test for about a minute debating whether or not to go and pee... I had no choice. Luckily, I was still able to finish all the questions (but I'm sure I missed a couple due to rushing). Oh and to top it off the woman next to me was coughing the entire test. FML.

I guess it could have been worse, but I have to admit I was not prepared for this!

There's ALWAYS someone in the room coughing - you have to get used to ambient noise. It's one of the weird things that they don't tell you to prep for.

Lol, I took it today too and in my testing room someone sneezed, then like 5 other different people starting sneezing too one after the other. Didn't really distract me too much but the chain of sneezes made me lol

Bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace" for about 3 minutes straight.

I get PTSD every time I hear a bagpipe. It was also during maybe the hardest LG section of all time (Dec 2010).

I was the kid that slid in his chair so fast that I smacked my knee into the table that the nice old proctor lady brought me a band-aid.

Someone showed up with his parents but without any form of ID.

first off, I don't know if this is normal, but I had FOUR proctors in my room and in the first section one kept going through these files in a bin and completely distracted me, all 4 were roaming around the room and making way too much noise for my liking, probably going to cancel my score because I got completely frustrated in the first section and it threw me off for the rest of the test, ah well there's always October...

About half of the people at my test site were there with their parents.

But nothing out of the ordinary happened at my test site. The proctors were nice, they even let us go to the bathroom after we checked in and before the test started.
Really? I've never seen it before. Maybe because Texas is such a car-necessary state that everyone can drive themselves? Idk

But I didn't even see anyone with their parents at the SAT, which would have been understandable lol

Right after we were seated at Youngstown State, the power went out. We had to wait over an hour before being given the option to take it now or wait til another day (probably October). We had to move across campus to a new room before finally being given the test. So glad it's over!

Well my horror story is that when I wasn't nervous at all the whole week leading up to the LSAT and on the actual test day but as soon as section 1 started I had a moment where I was shell-shocked and literally just dazed/skimmed my way through the first 5 questions. I eventually snapped out of it.

We had kids pound on our window (in a portable trailer that doubled as a 'library') and then about 15-20 kids and adults walk into the room to retrieve their hats and coats. The constant stream of people lasted about 15 minutes during section 2.
Apparently none of them could read "DO NOT DISTURB" or they just didn't give a shit.
I called LSAC from the parking lot, as I know others from my group did.

I'm on my way to drunk now...and it was so ridiculous I can only shake my head about it now.
At the start of section 3, guy walks in, stops dead in his tracks in front of us and says, "Oh, sorry!"

Sections 4 & 5 were somewhat peaceful. I was expecting a marching band!

Can't top these stories but I thought my test conditions were pretty abysmal. First the room was hot, and it was 95 degrees today in Virginia. Second--and much worse--there was a class going on next door. You could hear EVERY WORD the professor said, and then you could hear the tapping/screeching of him writing on the chalkboard right behind me. Completely fucked me up.

Hey man, I was there! I'm pretty sure you were directly to my left, a little bit forward. I was in between you and the kid that freaked out, and you were between me and the coughing lady. I'm not sure which was funnier, the guy who went nuts over the leisurely construction outside, or the coughing middle-aged lady who literally started with 10 pencils, highlighters, a watch, tissues, and her ID on her desk, only to casually smack all of her possessions onto the floor about 2 minutes into each section. Classic.

I shared this already in the URM thread but not everyone reads there.

Well, during section 3 a huge science convention emptied out and all congregated outside the door to our testing room. It was audible but not a big deal. The proctor (all of our proctors were super cool and awesome today btw) wanted them to gtfo so we could concentrate. But the problem was she kept going in and out of the room to go and find the right person to talk to or whatever she was doing. Every time she opened the door, it got sooooo loud and broke my concentration.

The girl seated directly behind me freaked out, started to hyperventilate and then started sobbing. I didn't know if i should alert a proctor or what. It was awful, I felt so bad for her. But she was also throwing me off while I was trying to take the exam. Eventually she calmed down and even finished the test. I dunno, I think I would have canceled my score and bailed in her shoes.

I tell him i'm testing can't talk, he keeps trying to talk to me. after 1st section he tried to order us and we have to tell him that he has to keep going.WTF. man is clueless!!!!

keyanaut wrote:When I came up to give them my driver's license and passport photo/admissions ticket, the proctor asked me why my eyepatch isn't reflected in the Driver's License. I told her that this photo was from prior to my car accident. (After my car accident I broke my skull and severed my eye, causing my eye to appear about 2-3 mm lower. I wear the eyepatch because without it I would have double vision and pain from light.) Either way, you can't wear eyeglasses or eye patches in driver's licenses anymore, at least in my state. She told me then she just wanted to notate it and let me in.

Note: I've taken this test twice before with the same ID and eyepatch in my passport photo, no problems then.

Then, right before the test, instead of noting it, she hands me a violation!

Summary: Test taker's DL photo did not reflect a eye patch but LSAT admissions photo and in person test taker was wearing due to auto accident.

Action Taken: Dismissed

While she handed it to me, she told me it's just a notation. Then I read the above and notice it says dismissed. I raise my hand prior to the test, and another proctor comes and says they will sort it out (I wasn't actually dismissed, just mismarked.)

Then this proctor comes in the middle of my SECTION and begins to TALK TO ME, while READING A RC passage. I tune him out the best I can, but he seriously wouldn't leave till I acknowledge what he said and respond back to him. He basically told me she mismarked, not to worry, enjoy my test, do well, but be sure to see him during the break.

Obviously this can break one's train of thought in the section, affect the rest of the test, etc.

Now, I have a violation that probably won't prohibit me from seeing my score; but if I complain then I assume they won't let me see my score and just offer me to take it in October.

Is there any way I can convince them to score it, and then also give me the opportunity to take it in October (4th time, 1st time was Oct 2011.) This is completely their fault in the way they handled it, choosing to interrupt me during my test.

When I confronted the initial proctor about it to get all of there names, she justified it by saying that if I I had something prohibited on my desk during the test, they would've taken the same amount of time to remove it and explain to me.

What stupid logic.
WOW that is fucked, wins the thread for "best" horror story imo

My proctor called 5 minutes with about 9 minutes remaining in section 3 (LR). That freaked me out because I thought maybe my watch was malfunctioning, but my pace suggested that I still had about 9 minutes left. I scrambled to finish the remaining 6 questions (including the "most similar" questions that I always leave until the end), but he doesn't call time until 35 minutes. That threw me off. I think he misread the 9 on his digital timer for a 5.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
