I've seen the light!!!
I can't believe it! I feel like I've made a mental breakthrough. I know how to get a 170 now. I haven't PTed at 170+ yet (been in the high 160s) but then again I haven't PTed in a week or so.
I figured out how to do it.
OK... Here's the secret:
1) When I focus on Logical Reasoning I can move through it efficiently getting -2 or -3 at most for each section. I usually finish with a minute or so to spare so I can double check a question that might have bugged me.
2) On Logic Games the real problem is the time constraint. I've gotten a lot faster so that while I don't give myself a whole lot of time by the fourth game I can still get through it efficiently. 0 to -2.
3) Reading Comprehension. For me it's a toss-up, but when I take about three minutes to read the passages EFFECTIVELY (critical), I can make up the time on the questions, although it sometimes involves filling in what I think is the right answer before reading all the answers. -4 to -5.
In sum- Focus hard on LR, Get through LG quickly and pray that one of the games isn't a complete curveball, Read slowly and effectively on RC and make up time by answering questions quickly and effectively.
RC is really my biggest worry because if I get a perfect RC I'll feel SO confident about my chances but I could easily screw up and get 8 or 9 wrong and ruin my life.
I got A LOT better at Logical Reasoning. As I kept taking more practice tests I started to notice patterns in the kinds of answers that would be right, especially in the flaw in the reasoning type questions.
Should I wait until October to take it so I'm at 100% or should I take a couple of PTs between now and June 11th and go in there confident?

Re: I've seen the light!!!
same boat..finally got to -2 on each lr but missing a lot in rc...im considering just doing 3 passages and in 10 minutes each and doing a quick 5 minute guess type with the fewest amount of questions...but i dont see why postponing to october would make sense at this point..maybe you will get lucky and get over a 170 on the test because you were clicking in RC, thats my approach right now

Definitely wait. There's no advantage to taking in June. You need to be actually scoring 170s, not just seeing how to do it.

Thanks for being an annoying troll!Max324 wrote:Also, make sure you don't bubble anything in unless you're absolutely sure it's the right answer. Remember, you're penalized a quarter of a point for every incorrect answer, so no guessing!

If the OP's goal is over a 170, then it is possible with 2 weeks of studying to achieve that score. Also if it is their first test, it is worth a shot instead of throwing the lsat cost down the drain.

So, how long do you think you can make it before the permaban?Max324 wrote:Go cry about it.Samara wrote:Thanks for being an annoying troll!Max324 wrote:Also, make sure you don't bubble anything in unless you're absolutely sure it's the right answer. There isn't much evidence that says all of those schools actually average the scores anyways.Max324 wrote:Depends on where OP is applying. Not HYSCCN? Re: I've seen the light!!!
Well I have 20 PTs left and I've been going over LG from the first 20 I took just so I can get a lot faster. Especially with the advanced linear games.
Anyway, I'm planning on applying ED to Columbia and then I'll blanket everything except for HYS unless I get like a 172+.
Should I just wait till October? I'm a URM (PR Male). But I also feel like even though it would be cramming to do 20 PTs in this amount of time, I think I can fit it in because I have no obligations and studying for the LSAT is my life right now. I mean I did 40 logic games today.

Re: I've seen the light!!!
It sucks because on early PTs, I was consistently going -3 or -4 on RC and suddenly I'm getting 8 or 9 wrong. I think it's because my approach has changed. Part of me wants to go back to the PowerScore method of being an active reader and using VIEWSTAMP but another part of me thinks the best thing to do is just slow down, read effectively, try to answer quickly, and hope I have enough time for the last passage.jbates14 wrote:same boat..finally got to -2 on each lr but missing a lot in rc...im considering just doing 3 passages and in 10 minutes each and doing a quick 5 minute guess type with the fewest amount of questions...but i dont see why postponing to october would make sense at this point..maybe you will get lucky and get over a 170 on the test because you were clicking in RC, thats my approach right now
RC sucks. I can't stand the dense art passages. Real hoping there's none of those in June.

Re: I've seen the light!!!
Honestly, I think it is just the increased difficulty of the newer tests. From my perspective, I used to score -2 or 3 on RC and now I am missing around 6-8.DaRascal wrote:It sucks because on early PTs, I was consistently going -3 or -4 on RC and suddenly I'm getting 8 or 9 wrong.
