LR, damn you!! Help please :)

Post by d0rklord » Wed May 09, 2012 10:46 am

I'm missing anywhere from 2-5 (or who knows, more sometimes) questions on any given LR section... Most often times towards the -5 range.

There are probably 1-2 that actual stump me and I was completely off on, which is fine... I review those and do better next time...

However... There are always 2-3 that I narrowed down to two choices and chose the wrong one!

I'm getting sooooooooo irritated! I don't understand why I am able to narrow it down to two... but for whatever reason I ALWAYS pick the one that is incorrect ;( I've tried reviewing, and etc.. but I always can still narrow it down to two, and then my brain goes blank or something!

Any wisdom would be helpful -____-

Thankies :D

Make sure your answer choices matches what the conclusion stipulates. If you are stuck between two, look back at the language used in the conclusion, usage of "Most, Some, Almost Everyone, Not, Generally" whatever it is and see if one of your choices is related closer to it. Obviously this will depend on the question type, but you didn't offer too much information. Make sure your answer is doing what the questions is asking of you. I mean, for a sufficient, is your answer REALLY going to prove the conclusion true beyond any doubt? On a flaw, is that REALLY the flaw in the stimulus? Honestly, when I do this and just remind myself that it MUST be what the question is asking I tend to do a lot better.

I agree with the above. I find that a lot of the time, looking at the scope of the answer choices can eliminate one answer choice when I'm stuck between two. For example, the other day I was stuck on a question about reptiles. I had narrowed it down to two answer choices, one of which specifically mentioned reptiles, and the other just said animals. The answer choice with reptiles turned out to be correct. This method will not always work, but it's just something to keep in mind.

Op, did prephrasing help? After reading the stim what jumped out at me was religious "texts" vs religious "inspiration."

(Prephrasing is tough for me though. I always think I have a good one and then lose myself in the answer choices, ugh!)

The advice above is great for fixing this problem.

However, I guarantee you that you don't always pick the wrong answer. Just as often, you get it down to 2 and pick the right answer. You just don't 'feel' those times as much, because you got it right so didn't review it.

No really, i think i do. Lol. I'm a horrible guesser...

Also, i circle the questions where I get down to two answers, and somehow........ i always get those wrong! i get MAYBE 1 out of 4 right, but i find that to be luck :(

Have you read the LR Games Bible by Powerscore? Have you taken a class such as Testmasters/Powerscore? I highly recommend both ideas.
