I'm trying to figure out why the answer to #5 in sec 1 of PT2 (Oct 91) is A as opposed to E? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Also, I imagine I'm going to have quite a few questions along this line as I do my prep, is there a better place to put them than simply making threads about each one? Thanks! :)

Took me a couple more looks to understand your explanation, but I think I've got it now. The author argued that Hughes changed a tradition saying Black literature needed to promote racial acceptance AND IN ORDER TO DO SO, it was required to be West Europish. This shows that the social factor dominates the aesthetic, because the original condition in the argument was social? Is that a correct understanding?

Thanks so much!
