Speed up RC

Post by wanderlust » Fri Mar 02, 2012 12:39 am

Hi
I wonder has anyone improve their RC speed dramatically?
At this stage I can finish 3 passages in 35 minutes with maximum one wrong answer. Should I stick with the approach I'm using now? (4.5 min for reading/underline the passage, 5-6min for questions) and hope with practice, I could gain some speed. Or should I change my method

That is way too much time spent on reading the passage, I shoot for 3 min to read a passage MAX. You are probably underlining and writing too much, keep it to simple notations and a few words here and there and you should cut some time down. Also, don't worry about memorizing every single detail, it's about the structure/big picture/points of views/purpose that really matter.

Agreed. Spend roughly 3 mins per passage.

Definitely waste less time reading. I read them in 30-40 seconds, though I realize that's not normal. Aim for 2-3 minutes.

+1. about 2-3 min reading. Don't write too much, and focus on the main idea and viewpoints of the authors/sides. I would suggest reading Manhattan LSAT's RC book. It really helped me improve, and I got to the point where I missed -0 or -1 on RC sections consistently. TBH, I found it to be a lot more helpful than Powerscore's method (although Powerscore's LG bible and LR are very helpful).
