Any advice for insomniacs trying to sleep the night before?
Late-night owl here.
I figure at least a 6 hour sleep would do me some good.
But I don't usually sleep before 3:00 AM the earliest.
Need to get some sleep before the test on Saturday.
Any advice? Please, no sleeping pill or prescription drug advice.

Nyquil? I mean, what are you expecting people to say?

This would affect his REM cycle--> affect the quality of his sleep. You should work out/have sex/drink some chamomile tea.chimp wrote:

Ya. Who hasn't taken Nyquil. Because if you're to use the arg, "if u haven't tried anything before the test you shouldn't, blah blah blah"...then, honestly, you shouldn't try anything new. Period. With Nyquil you wake up hazy, but, it isn't like caffeine won't shake you out of it. Plus, my pt was that if it's compared to no sleep, take Nyquil. Put on your alarm though!

Work out *hard* sometime midday (say, between noon and 4?). Drain yourself thoroughly -- by the time you get to bed you should be able to crash much more easily (worked like a charm for me).

I have bad anxiety, so I assumed I was going to sleep bad the night before. I just tried to sleep as much as possible the week before and drank a few 5-hour energys test day. Just keep telling yourself test day that it is almost over and hopefully that will give you some adrenaline to power through.

Re: Any advice for insomniacs trying to sleep the night before?
Yeah I'm normally up til 2-3 as well. I guess it's too late for you to heed this advice, but I made sure to wake up early (8 or so) since Tuesday to regulate my sleep cycle a bit. I actually fell asleep at 10 last night (felt so fucking good haha). I did all this so I didn't have to take Nyquil. I thought that would be a really bad idea. You never know how you'll feel in the morning after taking it. Sometimes I wake up refreshed, other times I feel ridiculously exhausted.
Also, I got a room in the campus hotel. On a Friday night, there's always the chance of a dorm party directly above, below, to the side of you, or just people being loud. (we don't have a greek system so almost all of the parties are on campus). Typically this dies down at like 3 am so I figured I'd pony up the 80 bucks to pay for silence. Might be a good idea if you live in a noisy dorm.

I'm an insomniac.... I took June so I could test at noon.
But, in terms of tomorrow-- work out a ton, no tv before bed for at least a few hours, and honestly, sex.

I just had sex from like 7pm-10pm the night before, then had a bowl of ice cream and a meltonin and then passed out listening to Beethoven. well, I do that almost every night but I think I put caramel on my ice cream that night. I think you should just stick with whatever routine you currently have in place.

Benadryl. Same ingredient as what makes you sleep in NyQuil but you can double dose if need be without the danger of Tylenol overdose you have with NyQuil.

Though, be cautious if you haven't used it before. I'm allergic to NyQuil- that was fun to find out.blowhard wrote:Benadryl. Same ingredient as what makes you sleep in NyQuil but you can double dose if need be without the danger of Tylenol overdose you have with NyQuil.

I hear orgies are great for getting yourself to conk out.
But for real, I took some Molly and went skydiving the day before. I figured I'd be too stressed out afterwards waiting to do anything fun. Then I played with some manatees for 2 hours and watched the notebook (my favorite movie) with my boyfriend. I didn't change my diet much, I just ate a whole pizza covered in snickers bars. This always seems to work for me.

I fainted once the morning after taking NyQuil. The nurse I spoke to said that its fairly common... something to do with NyQuil lowering blood pressure. Anyway, the point is, you should make sure you eat something the next morning if you take NyQuil the night before, since low blood pressure is probably not a good strategy.franklyscarlet wrote:Though, be cautious if you haven't used it before. I forced myself to wake up at some ungodly hour the day before, then worked out a lot. Then I smoked a bit, and clonked out by 10 PM.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
