If you're confident & prepared, then retake. But, why not do both ? Apply now to Alabama and, if you are unhappy with the result, then reapply next cycle with your new LSAT score.

Won't hurt me to apply, and defer if i get accepted with no money? And if I defer would they look at my new LSAT next cycle?

You need to ask Alabama about deferring. My advice assumed that if you were accepted to Alabama this cycle without a substantial scholarship, then you would reapply to several law schools next cycle & compare offers. If you defer an acceptance, then you are bound to that one law school for that year &, therefore, there is no need to entice you with a scholarship offer.
P.S. A higher LSAT should earn you a scholarship offer from Vanderbilt which could be used to bargain with Alabama, for example.

Sorry, I didn't mean defer, I meant just decide not to go. I was assuming they would look down on me not deciding to take an acceptance and weigh that next cycle.
But I guess if i make as high on the LSAT as I am capable of, they would see it as me just taking the time to improve myself.

I called the UA admissions office, and they told me with a 168 I am still very competitive with scholarships. I guess I am still applying this cycle.

Is UA the only school you want to attend? A 174 could get you scholarships at a bunch of other schools.

I want to practice in Alabama, and UA is probably the best school for that, Besides Vanderbilt.

Did I miss your GPA? Depending on it, you could still get Vandy, too.
