FIVE DAYS!!!!

Post by hatesRC » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:27 pm

ok, I'm really starting to freak out about this LSAT. I'm really good at LR and LG but do not know what to do about RC. any tips besides the classic "circle key words" and "read for structure not content"?

I don't even notate or mark the passage, any more.

You need to read every syllable and focus on fully comprehending the passage. Hopefully, you will remember the parts of the passage - as well. When answering RC questions, you should be ABLE to point to the answer in the passage; if you can't, you're a sucker for the test creators. You need to prephrase with a part of the passage.

Good luck. I'm not freaking out, but I am certainly getting excited for Saturday. Can't wait to prove my mettle.

Hunger isn't the problem for me. It's sleep. I took the October LSAT (159) and the night before was one of the most ridiculous nights of my life. I went to bed at 10 and was tossing and turning for a while. Finally I let myself open my eyes and check the time. 11:45. So I tried again. 12:30. counting sheep. counting sheep turns into hundreds of sheep writing the lsat and then all killing themselves. 1:30. Get up, maybe a pill will work. Aahhh, Benadryl! Two pills, and by 2:15 I'm out. Woke up at 6:00.

How am i going to avoid that waste-of-a-story this time? two benadryls at 9pm the night before.

Still pretty nervous.

What about 3-5mg melatonin instead of benadryl? Helped me sleep like a baby last test. You may also want to play some tennis or go for a jog Friday afternoon. Light, casual aerobic exercise. It will help you relax that night.

Thanx, I'll hit up Shoppers for that stuff. Im actually taking the Monday test because Im Sabbath observant. On sunday i am planning a high-intensity work-out. Apparently, rise in body temp helps tremendously. I really hope I break 90th percentile this test. I am averaging 165 on PTs so I think its possible.

Nightmare Scenario: I get 159 or worse. Thats gotta be the worst feeling in the world.

Right there with you hatesrc. 157 last test, and hate RC. I'm averaging like 164. Need a 166 preferably.

Hopefully we can pull it off!!! Let me know how the LSAT works out for you. Take care.

I dont know if this will help you but what i find really helpful for RC is after every paragraph take about 5-7 seconds in your head and say what the general idea of what that paragraph is really short and sweet to the point and try to relate each paragraph to the one before it ...if you are able to do this in only around 5-7 seconds if that for each paragraph it really helps with main point and structure questions

Thanx for the responses people! I heard this approach for comp reading passages which involves reading passage A and then going straight to the questions to cross off all the answers that were not true of A. Then you go to B and after that you can cross out more answers until you're left with the one correct answer. I've found this method to be pretty useful, anyone else use it?

Notice that i'm writing this at 1:43 am. Why, you ask?(I guess i dont know what a 'forum' means) I am taking a PT tom morning and cant fall asleep. I think its cause I wanna take it now, like i'm already thinking of things i'm gonna do during it. So i'm approaching sleep with the mindset: "ok sleep, usually we're friends, but tonight im gonna need you to skip the usual and just let me drift off cuz I wanna write a test already".

This is what I look like now:
