Re: 3.81/169 keep or retake?
Pretty sure this should be posted with the admissions threads but I'm in the same position so I'll bump.

Also, this link should give you some idea of your chances if you ED, which I've considered but probably won't do because of money....

If you think you can score 3 or more points higher, retake.chicagohopeful wrote:I've got a 3.81/169
Do I have a decent chance at Penn/Berkley?

If you are an URM, keep. If you have good softs or can write a compelling personal statement, keep. Otherwise consider a retake, but remember that what goes up can also go down.chicagohopeful wrote:I've got a 3.81/169

You have a chance. Probably target schools. However, if you up it to a 170, you're almost a lock.

You can at least get some t14 schools now, likely two of Cornell/GULC/Duke. You have a chance at Penn or Berkely as well.
I think retaking would push you to next cycle. Acceptance waves start going out in December for these schools, if not sooner.

In at Penn; Berkeley is too hard to predict, but you are certainly well qualified.
Whether or not you should retake depends upon your target schools & whether you are willing to put in the time to do better.
P.S. Just noticed your username. If Chicago is your goal, then a retake may make sense. A retake is unnecessary for Penn or Berkeley, however, in my opinion.

Also, one option is to apply this cycle, and if you don't like what you get, retake in June/Feb and get that 170->reapply.

Re: 3.81/169 keep or retake?
Thanks for the advice. That pretty much makes sense. I'm applying Ed Chicago, and then RD to MVP on down. Chicago is probably a long shot, but what is there to lose. I'll retake in December also (I know I can get 170+, I didn't prepare well enough for Oct.), and if stuff doesn't work out the way I want it to, I'll wait a cycle. I'm really crossing my fingers for Berkley though because I want to do IP on the west coast.
