Drinking Before the LSAT?
OK this is going to sound really bad, but I was wondering if anyone found it helpful to drink before the LSAT?
When I drink I'm calm, cool, and collective. I notice that during PTs I'm always a little bit shaky and have moments of mental anguish where I just think about tearing the test in half and leaving the room.
Do you think a nice beer would slow everything down and help me perform in the 170s where I belong?

Re: Drinking Before the LSAT?
I'm not sure about the day of, but the night before I had 3 vodka drinks. It wasn't enough to get me drunk but it definitely took the edge off so that I could get a good sleep the night before and wake up relaxed.
Honestly, I don't think a beer would affect you. If you think it'd help, I don't think it's a bad idea necessarily.

Alcohol is depressant. I think you should stay away from it

Re: Drinking Before the LSAT?
I like to drink during the LSAT. I filled up my ziplock bag with booze, and then bit a hole in it and sucked it out.
I sure psyched out the rest of the test takers.
Can't wait to try it out in school.

Here in this thread the grass roots movement has started to get an endowment to build and open the F. Lee Bailey school of law. God help the legal world!

Unless you plan to be wasted throughout law school too, I'd recommend just taking more PTs to gain that confidence instead.

This sounds like the behavior of an alcoholic.

Take some 5-HTP, its a natural amino acid that's a precursor to serotonin. It gives you a calm relaxed feeling.

Shotgun at least two beers in front of the proctors and then throw in a chew.
Or, ya know, take a few deep breaths.

Don't drink before the LSAT. Read some studies on state dependent learning if you want some reasons why it's a bad call (though I suppose if you are actually an alcoholic, those studies might have the opposite effect). Being "calm and cool" during the LSAT is not a bad thing if it's a result of absolute preparation, but even then, having some nerves and a sense of urgency help keep you on edge, on pace, and a little careful. I don't advise imbibing anything that will lull you into a false sense of security on that test.
Drinking immediately after the LSAT and immediately after receiving your score email (and before opening it) is always advised.

Is marijuana a depressant? How does it work for mental pain/anxiety?

No one plans on it. It just happens. Also, OP some of these people are not offering serious advice. If you're going to do it, it needs to be Irish Coffee. Between 1-3 before the test would be nice, and if I were taking it again, I would do this for srs. Find a coffee cartel or something similar and get 3 to go, or, if you're somewhere with an open container law, just combine all 3 into your own container. I've only done this before a couple classes, but I find that the caffeine keeps me attentive enough to do my stenographer gig in my early morning classes, and the alcohol dulls the boredom.mushybrain wrote:Unless you plan to be wasted throughout law school too, I'd recommend just taking more PTs to gain that confidence instead.

Also, I took 2-3 PTs in varying states of intoxication. Totally slammed, I felt like it didn't affect my performance at all during, but it was actually 4-5 points lower than my average. With just a good buzz, almost no difference except that it sucked a lot less. At some point, the test should be so automatic for you that unless you're pretty far gone, the answers just present themselves.

Smoking a blunt before the LSAT guarantees a score in the 99th percentile. You have to smoke the whole blunt though. And not reggie either.gabletrained wrote:Is marijuana a depressant? How does it work for mental pain/anxiety?

Glad to hear that booze helps you stay "calm, cool, and collective." Sounds like it's really working out for you.
