Post by szk0034 » Tue Sep 20, 2011 8:29 pm

Hi guys.
I need your helps.

First one is Q15 at section 3.
I am not quite sure why answer is (B) : it is to the advantage of some individuals that they be concerned with contributing to societal good.

Not with negating approach, just with this format, 'Premise -> Assumption -> Conclusion' can anybody explain please?

Second one is Q24 at section 3 again.
This one is a Justify Question. Can anybody show me diagram with this question please?

Thanks you.

For question 15:

When you read the arguement, you should realize that the author brings in new information into his conclusion. The conclusion states that modern literature can damage individuals who appropriate this attitutde (being unconcerned with contributing to the societal good). So you need to fill in this gap.

Being unconcerned with societal good+ ________ = damage individuals

Lets look at the answer choices:
A) the phrase "earlier eras" is what makes this wrong. The passage only says that there is sympathy given in "modern eras"
C) "being better than most [other societies]". Were not comparing socieites as this answer would have you do
D) Completely irrelevant. We are not concerned with the aesthetic merit of literary works
E) This is comparing modern literature to that of past eras. Once again, were simply concerned with modern literature and how it can damage individuals
B) This is the correct answer. It states that it is to the advantage of some individuals that they be concerned with contributing to societal good. If this is true, being unconcerned with societal good can damage individuals. This fills the gap that we were looking for.

Hope this helps
