LSAT beginner questions where to start and what to do?

Post by ihavemathtodo » Mon Aug 29, 2011 10:21 pm

Hey everyone,

I just finished my 2nd year of college and I want to take the LSAT. I have no idea where to start and from what I've read, there are some PowerScore books and something called Manhattan that I should do to start studying. Can you guys tell me where I should start? Whatever book set I get is where I'll take a diagnostic.

Also, what is your take on programs like Kaplan? It seems like a fat waste of money to me, but maybe I'm just ignorant of the value of the program. My sister took a Kaplan MCAT course and it was a waste of time for her. I wouldn't be surprised if the LSAT program is completely different though haha.

Anyway, please steer me in the right direction, I don't trust my large state university's guidance counselors AT ALL lol!

Thank you!

The previous poster is recommending that you use the "forum search" function, which is definitely useful. Check it out.

If you have the motivation to self study you can be very successful doing so. If you do take a course, don't take Kaplan, but do look at the first post in the "LSAT Course Compendium" thread at the top of this forum for some useful advice. If you self study a good start is to look at the thread by Pithypike, also near the top of this forum. That's a pretty typical study schedule. The only issue with that thread is that some of the materials are either no longer sold or outdated. The main things if you go that route, is that you can replace the Kaplan Mastery with Cambridge LSAT's LR bundle (google them), you can supplement the Powerscore LR bible with Manhattan's LR Guide (same goes for LG) and I think the consensus for RC is that the Manhattan guide is the best resource. Hope that helps.
