A friend gave me his LR book, dated 2003. He has also given me his LG Bible, probably from the same period (it's in storage). Amazon has a new LR book published in 2009 and an LG published in 2008. Are the new versions any different? I'd like to save myself the $60+ as well as the time I've taken to work through about 1/5 of the 2003 LR version.

Not really. They shoudl all be more or less the same - there haven't been any new question types since then.
