How do you prevent yourself from freaking out?
I've been getting fairly decent pt scores (170s) but am afraid its due to my already seeing the material (took prepcourse). This in combination with the recent dec lsat reactions is starting to freak me out. How do you calm your nerves/prevent a breakdown?

For me it's just my personality. Even before I took the LSAT I wasn't nervous or stressed out by it or anything at all.
It just comes with learning how to deal with stress and pressure.

Re: How do you prevent yourself from freaking out?
Lol at above responses.. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes when I do things different to try and give myself an advantage for test day it can end up really backfiring. Therefore, my advice is not to try to do anything special for the test (such as drinking more caffeine than usual etc) as that could be conducive to freaking-out, which is what you want to avoid. Other than that, you know you've got the skill and that should come out naturally on the test even if you are nervous. If you do have a panic attack during the test you can just wait for it to pass- things probably aren't as bad as they seem in that moment, and the good thing about the LSAT is that you can always retake it.

The reactions on the boards usually just reinforces how I felt about the test. Just relax and wait for scores. Sure you may have bombed a section, misbubbled, forgot to fill something in, but there's nothing you can do about it now.

I'm probably not the best person to give advice on this cause I get (and got) really nervous during LSAT testing, but I'd suggest if you're really concerned about panicking that you might want to see a therapist (I know it sounds nuts but I really believe this works and it's worth it) who can give you methods toward controlling your nervousness. If not that, there are some good books that can teach you how to challenge irrational thoughts and to stay calm during pressure, e.g., Feeling Good Handbook by Burns. It's what I did when I wasn't feeling confident during my LSAT. I know this sounds so over the top and very excessive, but the test is so important, I think it may be worthwhile for some people.

If you can't prevent yourself from freaking out while studying for, taking, or awaiting the results from the LSAT, then law school is going to be really fun the worst time of your life. It's like spending 8+ hours a day with people even more neurotic than you.
Here's my advice:
If you do poorly on the LSAT, oh well! Retake!
If you do poorly in first semester 1L, oh well! Second semester!
If you do poorly second semester, oh well! Enjoy being a barista!
None of this is the end of the world. Stress is a law student's #1 enemy. Calm down and have fun.

If you can do both while also smoking a cigarette you should be given an honorary 170. If you can also manage to make an internet post at the same time, honorary 180 plus a full scholarship to the LS of your choice!LawPlz wrote:While masturbating?Shmuckluk wrote:Masturbate.

Eh, lets not go that far. You can hold the cigarette and the drink in the same hand.Jeffort wrote:If you can do both while also smoking a cigarette you should be given an honorary 170. I didn't got into the test as nervous as I thought I would because I convinced myself that although it's an important test, I've been preparing for a long time for it.

Staying off this site helps. Once I stopped browsing this site everyday, my stress level regarding the LSAT went down substantially and my scores began to improve because I wasn't worried about comparing myself to others on here.

Hm. That is an excellent question you have posed stilles. You see, it's actually quite simple. You need to be on a strict regimen of pot and white wine. You see, smoking a few bowls of marijuana a day really helps with stress. Perhaps you should try smoking weed before going to bed, or if you already are, try getting higher. Take some extra res hits.stilles wrote:I've been getting fairly decent pt scores (170s) but am afraid its due to my already seeing the material (took prepcourse). Laughter and my job are the only things that keep my sane these days. Laughter because it keeps my mindset satirical rather than cynical. My job because every day I deal with the results of the fraudsters that originally drove me to consider LS.

I gave up on my exam.
I took this exam so many times I told myself during the test that I'm taking it just cos I'm bored. It did work. I didn't freak out. Its going to be the best one I ever took. I just don't know how good I did...or maybe I f**ked up.
