Conceptualizing "Unless" in Arguments and Games

Post by StrictlyLiable » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:04 pm

For the record, I tried to search for this information but I can't find it. This is a last chance effort to make sure that I am thinking of it right, and to get some advice to expedite the process.

I realize that its "IF NOT" then the conclusion, but taking PT 61 some of the argument answers flip-flop all crazy and makes them time consuming. So what do you guys do to figure these out faster?

61 LR1 and a few problems in LR2 were some of the most difficult LR problems I have seen, at least in modern tests.

Take for example this unless.

Jimmy is tall unless his parents are space cadets.

So, what do you know if jimmy is tall? His parents aren't space cadets.

What do you know if his parents are space cadets? He isn't tall. Just turn it into formal logic statements and you'd be fine.

Per the rules of "unless", wouldn't it become:

~Tall -> Space Cadets
~Space Cadets -> Tall

??
