165...RC -10 LG-2 LR1-3 LR2-4 RETAKE??
i took the October LSAT and scored a 165 with sections breaking down like this:
RC-10
LG-2
LR1-3
LR2-4
Do you guys think i should retake? Compared to the work i put in for the LR and LG sections, i did very little for the RC section. It is also the hardest section to improve on. I have a 3.36 and would love to go to Michigan or get some money at schools like OSU or UIUC.
Advice??

Not enough info OP.
- Were your PT results much better?
- What did your preparation consist of?
If you really think you can do better, then a retake is almost always worth it.

And BTW, RC can be improved. Although not nearly as much as LG or LR.

I took a testmasters class and did the majority of the homework. I also took like 12 Pts on my own. My scores ranged from the low 160's to the high 160's and mostly in the mid 160's. I split alot of the other prep tests into individual sections and practiced them so i have covered alot of the available material. I barely ever worked on reading comp. Pretty much only when i took prep tests or randomly practiced RC sections here and there. The Gentleman wrote:Not enough info OP.

My first time taking the test, I also did not prepare at all for RC because a lot of people told me it is really hard to improve it as compared to LG/LR. However, after a disappointing -10 RC score on my first exam and while it did definitely take me more work than LG/LR, I definitely was able to find patterns within RC and attack it using more of a mechnical method.313D313 wrote:i took the October LSAT and scored a 165 with sections breaking down like this:

My advice is start working on your RC and get it down to a level you would like (-4 or less imo should be your goal) and if you can reach that level before the test date then definitely retake. You should also work on LG so that it becomes a -0 instead of a -2 on the real deal. Best of luck.

I really hate having to say this, but with a 3.32 GPA and even a high 160s LSAT you are looking at a very long shot at Michigan. That said, if you think you can improve on RC and maybe get that LG to a -0, then it would be worth the retake. Even if you don't make your dream of getting in at Michigan (it will be tough, but it isn't impossible), you could still improve enough to have significantly better prospects than you have right now, both schools and $$.

To take it one step further, I would recommend reading things like the Wall Street Journal and The Economist, or perhaps some philosophy texts if that is more your style. It will significantly improve your RC. I can't say this from experience, but I wish I would have done that. 5 of the 8 questions I missed on the October test were on RC.KevinP wrote:My first time taking the test, I also did not prepare at all for RC because a lot of people told me it is really hard to improve it as compared to LG/LR. If you're pretty sure that you won't score lower, then I think you should retake.
I scored a 165...RC-8 LG-4 LR1-3 LR2-4
I know that I am capable of -0 on the right RC section, and seeing your performance on LR and LG, I bet you are capable of the same. The December LSAT RC CAN'T be harder than the one we just took and I am betting that there is no way I will do worse in December.
I scored 170 or higher on 15+ prep-tests and I have learned that there are just some tests that you will perform abnormally low on. I scored 169 on the june 2010 p.t. and I think the odds are in my favor to get a test that is right for me in December. Maybe you too.

Birdlaw missing 5 on RC of 8 wrong in total just confirms it to me that the October RC was harder than average.birdlaw117 wrote: 5 of the 8 questions I missed on the October test were on RC.

It depends on the schools you want to go to.

Don't let it. RC was my weakest section going into the test. I thought I did decent on it (-2/3) until I got my score. Fortunately the LR performance made up for it and I hit my PT Average (172.5).well-hello-there wrote:Birdlaw missing 5 on RC of 8 wrong in total just confirms it to me that the October RC was harder than average.birdlaw117 wrote: 5 of the 8 questions I missed on the October test were on RC.

Thanks everybody for the advice.
I actually felt that the October LSAT was not very hard and i am scared the December LSAT will have like a killer game or something. RC was my weakest section but i felt i was doing well on the test when i actually was bombing the RC section.
Lets say i take it and score lower how bad of a position am i in?

IMO your only downside is time. A lot of schools in the lower T14-T30 range look only at the highest score.
Then again, you could have really easy games, really easy LR/RC and a horrendous curve from hell, like -5.

If you score worse the second time, you will feel like a douche! Having scored 168 in Sep. 09 and then 165 in Oct. 10, I know.

Feeling like a douche if you fail is a bad reason not to try.well-hello-there wrote:If you score worse the second time, you will feel like a douche! Having scored 168 in Sep. 09 and then 165 in Oct. 10, I know.

Re: 165...RC -10 LG-2 LR1-3 LR2-4 RETAKE??
I scored 164 in June '09 w/ a -11 in LG. I tried improving, and did, practicing in the 167-171 range but then on the Sept. '09 test I pooped all over games again and ended up with a 163. I just couldn't get it down.
That said, I don't regret giving it a second shot, and almost gave it a third. Sometimes I wish I had. Don't wish. Study and if you think you can score higher, go through with the test.
Remember, the difference between a 165 and a 168 is a better school or more money!
