Question about October 2010 LSAT
It seems like there is an abnormally large number of people who are shocked by their October LSAT scores and/or don't really have any kind of idea or explanation for why their scores are so much lower than their practice tests. Of course, this will always be the case with a few people. However, it seems like this happened this LSAT administration to a ton of people on TLS.
Is this the case or is my observation off. If this is the case, why do you think it is so? Was this LSAT abnormally tricky? If so, why wasn't it curved more? Any thoughts?

It wasn't any different from any other test admission. I would recommend paging back to the forum comments after June's LSAT or last year's October.

Re: Question about October 2010 LSAT
I don't ever remember this much hand wringing after an LSAT, and I've been around for a few administrations. There are always disappointed people, but it really seems prevalent this time. I'm worried for my students. None of them have reported their scores to me yet, so I assume that means bad news.

More people have decided to whine. The test wasnt anything new. Also, keep in mind the kind of scores people are complaining about. A lot of them are mid to high 160 scores, definitely nothing to whine about.

This. I imagine it will get continually worse, as the children of helicopter parents get older.gdane5 wrote:More people have decided to whine. The test wasnt anything new. Re: Question about October 2010 LSAT
From what I can tell, there were quite a few people who unexpectedly did very well, and many more who unexpectedly did badly. This seems like the test is now geared toward a different set of takers...noticed that only one person who boldly predicted 176+ actually got 176+, and the rest that did that well were not expecting it.
Is it possible the psychometricians are getting better at combatting test prep?

Looking over all the threads, I thought that there might be more unhappy people than usual too. But of my students, it was pretty standard in terms of the percentage that did better/worse/as well as they thought.

Re: Question about October 2010 LSAT
I think its pretty simple - PTs aren't the same pressure cooker as is an LSAT with 40 other people that decides your future. 4 missed questions stand between me and a 167, and I bombed -8 LG and -9LR, those 3 sections alone giving me more missed than most of my PTs.
I do think the test is changing. It would be silly to think that they arent introducing new tricks/traps and new LG scenarios.....

After the June Lsat the board was pretty much just filled with holy shit that was hard, and already canceled. I feel that this one had alot of people thinking they did well and didnt. (I was in this boat)

Re: Question about October 2010 LSAT
I just bombed it because I didn't sleep. I thought I did better, but it makes sense now that I scored so much lower than my PT average because without sleep, you can not think. Pretty basic really. The test itself is of average difficulty. I don't think there is any magic here.

I may note that the curve was almost identical (2 more questions, and each conversion is 2 more correct answers almost all the way down the line from 180 to 140). Remember, too, the test is still equatedhwaggone wrote:After the June Lsat the board was pretty much just filled with holy shit that was hard, and already canceled. I'm torn between jealously hating incompetentia, and wanting to be his best friend.
Of course, who says you can't do both?

No avatar changing will stop me from grieving over the lost dream of seeing that 180 pop up in my mail box, and I now associate you with a 180. You sicken me.incompetentia wrote:Different Oprah picture would help? I had like four Oprah tars made for me

I made bacon chocolate chip cookies before... I had tasted a chocolate bar with bacon made by Vosges and discovered that bacon and chocolate are a great combination. So I made these cookies. They were pretty good. My wife still raves about them.incompetentia wrote:Do you want a cookie? I made some delicious ones over the weekend.

Really? hmm, never heard of bacon and chocolate. Must be a 180 thing.
