Retake?

Post by whymeohgodno » Sun Oct 31, 2010 1:33 pm

I got a 168 on October which isn't too far off from my PT average.

But I feel as if I could have done a lot better because I totally bombed the first section due to wasteful time management.

My test went like LR1: -9 RC: -2 LR2: -2 LG: -1

I do have a 3.79 GPA and I would be delighted to get into Cornell but I have very weak softs and a relatively uninteresting life compared to most applicants which I think might hurt me.

Should I retake December if I think I can get a 170+ or above? Or should I just apply to Cornell down as it is?

yeah a few extra points will get you some good money. and if i recall you were one of the peeps doing pretty well on PTs so i think you know you really can do better. December you'll be much less nervous with a 168 already under your belt and you can master that first section! good luck

Should I take my chances at Cornell this cycle with a 168/3.79 and retake and apply next year if I don't get in?

Or should I take December and hopefully raise my points by at least 2 but submit a super late app?

December is not super late. February is super late.

If you improve 2 points that'll help you a lot more than being in early.

What was your PT average? if it was like 170, I wouldnt recommend retaking, but if it was in the 172+ range, and you dont mind devoting more time to studying (actually studying pretty hard), retaking could be good. You're already at the 75 percentile for both gpa and lsat for cornell (from what I can find), so if Cornell is the school you really want to get into, I wouldnt think retaking is really necessary.

Cornell median last cycle was a 168/3.7. I'm at one median and barely above another with weak softs - sounds ripe for a waitlist/reject?

Sorry I was looking at 2008 data. I guess my advice on the retake still stands. If you were pt'ing at 170 (and had studied a good amount), I don't think the effort/possibility of doing the same/worse is worth it. if you were pt'ing at 172+, retake would be worth it.

I was PTing around a 170 which makes it iffy.

Ugh. If only I had guessed 1 more question correct. I would feel a lot more confident about Cornell.

I guess it's back to contemplation...
