I have a feeling this going to turn into one massive bell curve.

My last five PTs went: 171, 172, 168, 170, 167, and I ended up right on my average at a 170. Test day was a complete blur for me, and I left the place thinking I sucked it up. Was very close to canceling my score, but people kept recommending that I keep the score since it would be my only one.

I posted this is the mega thread that is going on right now, but I did not get an answer: Doesn't the curve ensure that no test is harder than another? It seems like the average has always been 151-152.

Yes, the curve is calculated in a way so that all tests are equivalent. There could certainly be a test where the average was lower or higher than a 151, but that would require a significantly smarter or dumber group of people taking the test during one of the seasons. Every curve is essentially determined by the group that preceded it.GettingReady2010 wrote:I posted this is the mega thread that is going on right now, but I did not get an answer: Doesn't the curve ensure that no test is harder than another? Honestly, I wasn't rigorous enough with my practice tests to be able to tell you. My entire study plan was pretty bad, actually. I only did practice tests in the last about 3 weeks before the real thing, and every time I was really stressed out and not doing as well as I could have been. I was also still figuring a lot of things out, such as how to diagram certain games or tackle certain LRs, never mind the whole 50s RC fiasco. Taking all that into account, I scored about 3 or 4 points above my PT average, but 3 or 4 points below what I know I can get.
I wish I had found out about and become addicted to this site over the summer instead of in the middle of September. It would have helped me tremendously.

Yes, but it depends on who you are. A long and easy test benefits fast people, a short and hard test benefits thorough people. A difficult but common LG benefits those who studied, an easy but unique game benefits people who are quick on their feet. People are going to do better on some tests than they will on others, so that is probably what mostly accounts for what makes a test seem "hard" or "easy", even if the overall average of tens of thousands of scores is the same in all of them.GettingReady2010 wrote:I posted this is the mega thread that is going on right now, but I did not get an answer: Doesn't the curve ensure that no test is harder than another? Whoa...10 pts below. I was averaging low 170s on pts, received a 161 today. I haven't seen the pdf yet as lsac hasn't posted, so I can't tell for sure what the issue was--it could be a bubbling error or just as likely that I was overconfident. All I can say for future students is don't take this shit lightly...

Averaged 174, scored 170. PT's probably could have been more strict, but it was RC that did me in. I had averaged -0/2 for the longest time, but in the last month I became wildly inconsistent, and it showed with my -4. Other than that my 0 LG and -6 total LR was in line with my average.

Re: How much above/below your PT avg. did you score? (POLL)
I took every PT + experimental section under timed conditions at 12:30 (time of June administration) with a fifteen minute break after the third section. I studied under somewhat ideal conditions most of the time. Sometimes in the middle of the library. One time I studied under very loud conditions and had a throwaway PT. It was a horrible experience, but it probably helped me. I was very anxious for how I would be affected by test day noise. It was negligible. I am told this is not always the case.
My average was 163.6, my mode was 162 and 164, and my median was 164 (maybe 163?). I got a 164 in June. I scored very consistently overall, but my breakdowns were ALL over the place, which is why I am retaking in October.
