Don't Panic, It Will Be Okay
Dear 0Ls: this time last year I was like you, eagerly awaiting my score. When scores were posted, people were raving about how they scored 170, 175, 180, etc. Seemed like everyone who posted got 170+.
Then my score came and it was in the LOW 160s. My heart sank, my stomach sank, and I didn't even bother posting my score on TLS. Hell I didn't even sign up for a TLS account because I was too depressed to jump into the conversation.
Instead I registered for the December test, I stepped up my game on study habits and methods, I grabbed that 170+ score in December, and now I'm at the University of Michigan with a hefty scholly despite sending my apps in December.
So whatever happens today, it's not the end of the world. A bad score hurts your chances at schools that average scores, but you can still have a great cycle with a retake. My advice would be to send in your apps as soon as possible even if you will be retaking.
Also, no matter what some people might say, retaking is the correct response if your score is under 170 (or whatever your target is) and you really think you should have done better. I don't know anyone who was hurt by a retake, but I know plenty who were helped immensely (including myself).
Good luck.

Also, ignore the garbage about the scores not coming until Monday. They'll come today or tomorrow

existenz, did you wait to apply until you had the second score or did you apply with the first and then you just sent in the december score to boost your applications? sorry maybe you made this clear, my reading comp skills have declined in recent weeks

Re: Don't Panic, It Will Be Okay
I was dumb and figured that schools would lean towards rejecting me with my low score before the new score came out. Also I was focused on LSAT prep and didn't send any apps until after the Dec. test.rjh456 wrote:existenz, did you wait to apply until you had the second score or did you apply with the first and then you just sent in the december score to boost your applications? sorry maybe you made this clear, my reading comp skills have declined in recent weeks
Finally, I was being cheap and didn't want to apply to T10 schools where I had no chance unless my score was good enough. In retrospect I should have sent all my apps by mid-Nov when I had all of my LORs ready to go. For example, Berkeley accepts virtually NO ONE who applies after Thanksgiving, and UVA is really tough on out-of-state applicants who apply later and don't ED.

It might not be ok though. Many of you will end up with very disappointing scores.

More direct answer: definitely not, but it is his most genuine post of the past few months.

With that GPA you're in a tough spot. You could get into NU by ED'ing if you have work experience, but you'll still need a 170+ LSAT. Probably won't get much if any money though.Nonok wrote:OP. I had a 3.8/170. Among the T14 I got into Mich, Duke, NU, GULC, Cornell all with $$. I'm convinced my late app is the only reason I didn't get into Berkeley.
Also, thanks NR. I didn't know I was being an asshole but I guess the Lounge distorts one's sense of propriety.

I don't think he's really ever come off as an asshole (unless someone who reads his posts doesn't have a sense of humor), but I just didn't expect any BP poster to go out of their way.Nightrunner wrote:Honestly, Existenz is a genuinely good human being, who also has a great sense of humor. that was actually very thoughtful of you to know what so many other people will be going through and preemptively helping them through that by sharing your experience. That is pretty unusual kindness. Unfortunately for me, I took it as some kind of omen that I will score in the low 160's and now I hate you.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
