Games - Maximum/minimum Questions

Post by 2011Law » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:13 pm

Always seem to have problems with maximum/minimum questions, especially with maximums. Even when I do get the answer, it usually takes way too long. Can someone help me out with this? One of the ones that I completely blanked out on was PT 34, Sec 4, Q14. If you could explain your thought process in solving that one (or any like it) that'd be great.

Start out at the extremes then work your way down/up.

If it asks for the maximum think of the maximum possible and then just work your way down. This is what I do anyways.

The one I'm looking at right now (the one I posted) seems like there's just too many possibilities to work my way down (though to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what you meant). There are between four and eight possibilities. I could just write out all the possibilities, but that would take a while it seems, and want to figure out how to do this as fast as possible.

If it's between 4 and 8 choose 8 then work it down or choose 4 and work up.

It's the most concrete way and most of the time you can cross out most of the choices that are at the extreme ends relatively quickly.
