Can I raise my score to the mid 170s by the October LSAT?
I started studying at the end of April with a 153 on the diagnostic. My score actually got worse before suddenly improving. Now, I am up the mid-high 160s range for the most part. Do I still have a shot?

If you're asking this question, I highly doubt you are scoring in the high 160's

Maybe he scored a 153 b/c he didnt have a clue how to do logic games, didn't realize wrong answers dont count against you, plus the other usual excuses. OP i would say a 170 is reachable, but most likely not mid 170sservinDizzert wrote:greyblob wrote:I started studying at the end of April with a 153 on the diagnostic. It took me 3 months to go from 170ish to 175ish (only about a week to go from 160 to 170). I know others who were never able to do mid 170s, though I'm certain they tried.
It depends.

Go study and find out. If everyone here says no, what are you going to do, not take the LSAT?

It'll be difficult.. a jump of 10 points in two months in itself is not an easy feat, let alone a jump into the mid 170's, where the score differential is extremely tight.

It's possible, though not likely. Worth a try though.

Why wouldn't he be able to raise his score to the mid 170's? Isn't that a fairly minimal raw score increase? We have 2 months left!!

a 20+ point increase is minimal? Especially, since he hasn't come near that score yet after 3+ months of studying?Anaconda wrote:Why wouldn't he be able to raise his score to the mid 170's? Isn't that a fairly minimal raw score increase? We have 2 months left!!

I guess I understand the anxiety that inspired the question. Even still, it seems like the kind of question that only someone who knows you, and who also understands the LSAT, could answer. I mean, are you asking if the feat is possible, or if it's possible for you? Since it seems like the latter, who knows. If it's the former, why not.

He said he's scoring in the mid-high 160's. If he's at a ~167, is another 7 points really out of the question?Patriot1208 wrote:a 20+ point increase is minimal? It's not out of the question, but very few people who self study make a 14 point jump and then pull another 7. like less than 1%Anaconda wrote:He said he's scoring in the mid-high 160's. there is a cap somewhere, it's not like you can forget he's already made a 10-15 point jump, then say all he needs to do is jump anouther 7, 7 is nothing.

Re: Can I raise my score to the mid 170s by the October LSAT?
I think the bigger issue is that usually the last 7 points is harder to get than the first 14, and its taken him 4 months to get those 14 and he has two months to get those last 7. Again, it's possible with a lot of dedicated practice, its just not likely, especially with self study.Patriot1208 wrote:Anaconda wrote:He said he's scoring in the mid-high 160's. What does self study have to do with it?Audio Technica Guy wrote:

In my experience, its harder to make huge score improvements with self study. Mostly because you don't have someone else to point out errors in your thinking, provide another set of eyes, etc. Its not that hard to learn the basics of how to diagram, how to find conclusions, etc, but that only gets you so far. If you're having trouble with the more subtle points, that usually takes a tutor or teacher (and a very good one at that).naterj wrote:What does self study have to do with it?Audio Technica Guy wrote:

Yeah I see what youre saying but from my experience (being a self studier) its not like I sit there and stare at questions hoping I will eventually understand it. If I'm struggling with something I search answers/explanations online or something.Audio Technica Guy wrote:In my experience, its harder to make huge score improvements with self study.
