This is the "5 TV contestants" game. I ended up getting all questions right, but I am seriously stumped over the way the following rule is worded:
"Kate is scheduled for the next day after the day for which Victor is scheduled."
To me, I am thinking that it would be diagrammed V _ K cause the blank spot is the "after the day" and K is the next day? I know this is not true and that it IS [VK] since question 7 is a simple "Victor cannot be scheduled..." and both Thursday & Friday are listed, Friday being TCR.
Any help breaking this rule down would be appreciated...
Thanks.

I was confused by this too.
It says Kate will be scheduled the next day after Kate is schedule. By saying "the next day after the day Kate is scheduled" just is used to clarify that Kate is scheduled on a day, rather than indicate that there is a break between the two days.

They really ought to reconsidering writing any rules like this. You can interpret it either way it seems depending on which words you emphasize in the sentence. Seems like it needs a comma somewhere, but I don't know where though.

I think this sentence is clear enough. Kate is scheduled for [the next day] after [the day for which Victor is scheduled].pkpop wrote:Searched the forum, couldn't find anything.

If you read a sentence like, "Kate is scheduled for the next day after Friday," how would you translate that? You'd say, "Wow, weirdos, just say Kate is scheduled for Saturday." The "day for which Victor is scheduled" is a given day (or, well, it could be a variety of days, but it's clear enough - if Victor is assigned a day, Kate is on the next day). Kate is scheduled on the next day.
I can see how you might have thought there was a day in between (I have the hardest time with those rules that say stuff like "Kate is scheduled three days later than Victor" and have to write it out very slowly haha) - but "NEXT DAY AFTER" is what you should be focusing on. Next is similar to "immediately following." You could re-write the sentence to say, "Kate is scheduled for the day immediately following the day Victor is scheduled." I think it's the "after" that is tripping people up in their interpretation of this line if they think it's unclear. The next day after something is still the next day.
