grouping games

Post by northwood » Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:16 pm

I am having trouble decide if a grouping game can use any elements in the groups, or have a group be empty. What verbage should I look for in the question stem, or background infromation of the game that would tell me if i have to place at least one element in each group, or if I can leave a group empty

I think it has to tell you directly if each group must have one element. "Each mannequin must wear a hat, chosen from 3 different colors." The alternative might just state "a mannequin could be dressed with three articles of clothing, chosen from a hat, shirt, pants, tie."

Does anyone else find the games so amusing? Like, the topics for them. Especially the ones someone discusses and you remember it and you're like "oh, the question with that tri-color jacket and overalls..." WHO WEARS OVERALLS? Although I think that was a 1990's LSAT, so perhaps overalls were popular.

In any case, watch out for words like "exactly," "at least," "at most," and "minimum/maximum." Stuff like that is cueing you into whether or not the game has a 1-1 ratio of distribution or if it's overloaded or underfunded or whatever.

Same here, I thought it was pretty easy. I find the grouping easier than most other types. Seems like a lot of people have problems with them.

The mannequin games requires a lot of mental juggling and an accurate diagram. As long as you keep everything straight, it isn't bad. If you can't, it's a nightmare, and I can easily see why people can get a +0 on it.

The first time I tried it, I miss-diagramed the most important rule of the game, second time my diagramming was accurate and the game was kind of simple.
