Good Book for Logic Games? (Besides the Bible); Study Advice Forum

I've been banging out logic games 5 days a week for the past three weeks. I finished the Bible, and have since been working on old TestMasters books that I neglected over a year ago. The problem is, most of these games are a random mix and aren't separated by Game Type... and TestMaster's explanations for the logic games SUCK.

I photocopied the games I've worked on thus far (LGB & TestMasters) and could repeat them already, but I'm not so sure if that's a good idea to repeat a game so soon after you have already tried it. Isn't it good to forget the game to some extent so it's fresh and therefore you can test how much you've learned?


I'm looking for something that will be a strong tool for me to use; I really need to improve on this section. I'm seeking mastery! Any tips/suggestions as to books I should look into or different study methods I should practice? Thanks.

When I first took the LSAT, I had never seen a logic game before. This book took me from zero knowledge to a minus 3 on the real LSAT in about 3 weeks. . . mostly because there is a short and sweet introduction to how to tackle logic games, different than the Bible and the games are not real LSAT problems and are usually more difficult and take longer to solve. This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on where you are in your practicing. I did not use the LG Bible before my first test.

I am re-taking the LSAT soon and did go ahead and read the bible too. They are VERY different and both are soooo helpful. . .however if you don't want non-lsat games, this is not the book for you. . . .but at $6 for a used copy, it's a great bargain! I paid full retail!

What's the general consensus of the Kaplan Mastery book? Did you use it? If so, how did you feel about it?

Which do you prefer of the two? That might be a difficult question to answer.

What I LIKE about the first book you posted is that the games are separated by game type; however, what I don't like is that these games are much older games and supposedly the games in recent years are a lot different than the older ones.

As for the second book you've posted, I've never seen that one before and typically I like to do REAL games, but if you think it's a really good book I might reconsider. Thanks.

I use it in my studies... Kaplan Mastery Practice uses real LSAT Questions and group them too. IMO, it is fanastic!

As to sort-by-type, you can either sor them yourself by PDF-printing and photocopying or purchase.

(1) Sorting Yourself

I was lucky enough to borrow or inherit most of the past Preptests. I photocopied and sorted by the above scheme. It was friggin' time-consuming, but I got it done.

CambridgeLSAT has a free "Logic games solution key:"

I used the above key instead of undergoing the additional task of organizing and sorting the various PrepTest answer keys.


(2) The group-by-type publication by Traciela, in an earlier post:

The drawback (or advantage) of the Traciela book is that it only organizes games from PrepTests 1-20. But compred to Kaplan Mastery it's reliably priced and accessible.


(3) Kaplay Mastery. Or, correspondingly, the slightly older Kaplan Big Orange Book.

When I was shopping around Amazon.com, there weren't many new affordable copies of the Kaplan Mastery book, so I purchased the Big Orange Book instead. The Big Orange Book was renamed to Kaplay Mastery around 2006 (I think).

And if you do purchae the Kaplay Mastery book, be sure to distinguish between Kaplan's course Mastery practice and its Mastery homework book. You'd want the thicker (~720p.) Mastery Practice book.

With purchase, you're given a link to access and then print from their website. I usually just convert to PDF the documents for storage and convenient printing. (I'm very good at losing and misplacing physical stacks of paper.)

I have not used the first book yet because I'm still working my way through old tests, so I haven't gotten to need more games yet.

I do like the second book because it gives a small explanation at the beginning of a different diagramming system (less detailed/shorter than LGB and gives games that are different.

I do not use it full time, but use it on the side to keep me in LG mode even if I don't have time to do full tests because now I'm using my practice tests for full lenth and timed sections. . . .I can use this book even when the baby is running around the house and stop mid-game and not worry that I've wasted my "real" games. The games are similar, but usually longer and more complex than LSAT games. LSAT games usually have very easy to spot implications, these games are not always as easy and thus not as LSAT-ish.

You are not supposed to be able to finish them in the 8:45 that you're supposed to be able to do real LSAT games. . .that really turns some people off, but as I said, the used versions are going really cheap right now, and I'm still happy I bought it even though when I bought it I couldn't find a cheap used and had to pay like $33 for it!

Some of the reviewers on Amazon claim to have found egregious errors in it. . .I'm on game 41 and have discovered only one error that I could not reconcile. . .and that may be my own goofiness.
