studying LSAT..feeling burnt out lately

Post by February1088 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:39 pm

I realize this is just a rant..bear with me. I've been studying lsat for a while now and it feels like my social life is slipping away. I don't hang out with friends anymore and I go to library/bookstore everyday just to study 5/6 hours a day. My accuracy has been improving but my speed is still horrible, I can finish logic games in the allotted time but not LR or RC sections. To some of you guys who have been studying for lsat a lot, do you guys ever get frustrated, socially lonely? what do you guys do to keep yourself going?

my score is currently around 163-165 but when I properly time myself, it drops a lot. I'm also suppose to take a powerscore class on Aug. 31st but do you guys think I'm ready to take it? Personally I want to achieve a 165 under properly timed conditions before I enroll...

It feels like everyone else is having fun while I'm stuck here studying.

And Reading Comprehension is impossible to get extremely accurate...there will always be questions that you cannot answer no matter how much you study...And the Testmaster RC bible did not help much. Only their LG / LR bibles I recommend.

Just feeling down lately. Any advice welcomed

1) I can empathize...I am taking two summer classes on top of working full time so I basically get home from work everyday, go straight to the library, and go to bed only to repeat the next day. It sucks, but it will be over soon enough.

2) Get your goals straight. If law school is something that you want to do, it needs to be your number 1 priority. Your friends will still be there in the Fall after the test. Study your ass off, you'll be happy you did.

Theres nothing to be ready about when it comes to your Prep course. People go into those courses having done absolutely no LSAT work. Youve been doing a lot apparently, so you'll be fine.

Dont worry so much about your score. The LSAT is a long ways away. If youre scoring in the 160's, untimed or not, thats pretty good. A lot of people cant even break 160 after studying for months. Just take it easy. Its quality, not quantity. Hang out with friends and enjoy yourself. You'll be fine.

Good luck!

Relax. Take a deep breath.

It sounds like you're studying non-stop, and I don't think that's the best way to go. If you're feeling frustrated and lonely that'll reflect in the quality of the studying you're getting done, plus you'll run a bigger risk of feeling burnt out (which I think you may be already).

I think taking a day off here and there - maybe once a week or so? - to meet with friends and relax a bit, maybe watch a movie or something will help a lot more than it will hurt, especially when you have this much time before the October test.

My summer consists of 3 activities. Full time work, gym and LSAT. I've limited myself to going out once a week, either Friday or Saturday. I've done 3 PT so far along with the curriculum for Blueprint and Have scored 160,160 and 162.

So trust me, I know how it feels. I felt like balls yesterday so I decided not to take a look at an LSAT problem at all after work. So I called my friends went out and I feel really motivated today. When you're feeling burned out take a day off and I'm sure you'll feel better. Worked for me at least.

+1. I think that you should definitely try to find some balance between studying and maintaining a social life in order to prevent feeling burnt out from studying or socially lonely. Try and take breaks in between 2 hour blocks (just an example) of studying and do something to get your mind off of LSAT (gym, friends, nap, etc.) so that you constantly feel recharged and on top of your study game. This also allows you to stay in contact with friends, family, etc. Time might be restricted in a social context, but keeping a balance can potentially allow you to keep your social life from completely diminishing.

I think you need to take more practice tests.
