powerscore lr and lg bibles

Post by wehman » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:31 pm

Just quick curious question: how many of you just took a diagnostic and then used the lg and lr bibles and did them diligently from front to back and took the lsat? How did you do?

Not saying I'm going to do this but I got my bibles in today and they are wondrous.

I have both bibles. I haven't opened the LRB yet, but after completing the LGB I scored 169 on my first PT, whereas my diagnostic was 161. Not sure if those are normal results, but that was my experience.

I've never used either. LG is a section where, IMO, you don't need the bible. It's usually very easy deductive logic once you develop the necessary skills to sort out the variables in each game. As far as LG goes, I would suggest just doing as many as possible. As far as LR goes, like I said, I have never used the bible, but it is just as learnable a section as LG. You just have to keep taking PTs and getting used to the question types. Other's will probably disagree with me though.

wehman, be advised that most TLSers swear by the LGB, and many appreciate the LRB, too. I don't doubt that, as Albatross said, these skills can be self-taught, but the general consensus is that the LGB is an exceptional book and a great way to learn to attack logic games. Every study guide I've seen on here incorporates the LGB, and many do the LRB, too. As always, though, YMMV.

Swear by it? The LGB converted me from atheism. I've seen the light.

I actually would like your guys' opinion on what I've read. On Amazon, I've read the reviews for the LRB and the LGB. The LRB is fairly unaninmous in its praise of the book. Almost everyone says that is has helped them. Based on this, I've read through it, and now am working my way from getting -12 to -4, and then hopefully to -0. For the LGB, I am reluctant to buy it because 1) I can get all the questions right untimed, but cannot seem to get them right timed. and 2) the reviews on Amazon say that it is unnecessarily technical and confusing.

My question is, is it worth going through if I can get the questions right? Or is at as magical as others claim it to be?

I have started going through the LG bible and so far I like it. I can understand how some people may say it is unnecessarily confusing but I think those same people either A. are in the very small minority who naturally get it without any help and B. aren't trying very hard/looking for a quick fix to their inability to do the questions naturally.

Their methodology seems efficient, quick, and knowledgeable. Three key concepts to cracking the logic games, I'm sure.

I haven't even opened/looked into the LRB yet. I'm sure it is equally interesting and helpful.

I have the LR bible in my shopping cart on Amazon right now. I usually miss 2 or 3 LR questions per section. Generally, there are 1 or 2 questions where I have no idea what the right answer is (can only eliminate 1 or 2 choices) and do not understand why the correct answer is right. Would the LR Bible help me?

I bet the LR bible will help. I'm only guessing based on how LG bible is set up, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, I imagine they are fairly similar and if they are it will have great practice of examples of questions and how to spot the question and how to answer it.

My scores actually went down for a few tests after doing the lr and lg bibles. What happens is that you change techniques, yet haven't mastered the new ones yet. It takes time to adjust. After the period of adjustment, my improvement was significant.

So would you recommend the earlier LGB or the later one? I believe it is 2003 vs 2008.

Well, I haven't done the research as to why some people would recommend the older version as opposed to the newer issue but I have the newer issue. I love it so far. They explain everything in good detail. I find the logic games bible exciting; each time I may have forgotten some part of my diagramming or forgot to look into this variable or that variable they break it down and so far I haven't repeated mistakes. I recommend.
