LGB Questions

Post by sdphill » Wed Jul 14, 2010 7:50 pm

I have just finished reading the LGB, and I still have a few more questions.

I do not know if this is prohibited or not, but can anyone thoroughly explain Identify the Templates and Identify the Possibilities that was mention in the Advanced Techniques Chapter? I definitely did not understand PS's explanation.

Also, after you finished the LGB, how many questions, on average, were you missing? I am still missing like 1-2 questions per game untimed, but I haven't done much practice outside of the practice questions given by Powerscore.

Thanks!

Identify the possibilities is when you list all the possible solutions that a game can have. You usually use this when youre given a lot of rules/restrictions and you have 6 or less possibilities.

Identify the templates is a more general version of identify the possibilities. You use this when you have limited information.

Based on your thread title, I thought you were subtly trolling transsexuals by excluding them from the traditional "LGBT" acronym. I came in expecting fireworks and I left feeling disappointed.

From my experience, most students don't get a lot of out of that chapter. "Identify the possibilities" has some value on games with serious restrictions on a few key variables. For example, if A can go first or third, and you're able to make several deductions based on either permutation, you can and should write out two diagrams with deductions taken to their conclusion.

I'd also definitely start working through some timed sections; you won't have a good idea of your true performance until you start doing that. Let me know if we can help.

I just finished the LGB and despite me learning a great deal from everything else, I also didn't get a whole lot out of that one particular section (master the possibilities). Best of luck.
