147 Diagnostic -- Is there hope?
Hi Fellow TLS members
Just took my first diagnostic with my Testmasters course after having gone through the LGB already.
Received a 147 (-6 LG, -14 RC, -26 LR). Wasn't able to complete the last RC section and many of the last LR problems due to time. While I'm shooting for a 180, my realistic goal is a 163. I'm wondering if making the 16 point jump is going to be possible. I have the whole summer devoted to studying, is there hope?!?!
Thanks in advance! Any advice is always appreciated!

I say potentially. Target your weakness: LR. I'm sure your increase in LR will also help your RC score too.

getting a 180 is possible. Dont worry, you gotta keep practicing. Sign up for BluePrint prep if you can

the LR is good, the RC not so much. I'd say LR and LG are taught really well, and for RC you are on your own.

This is true of most prep courses.Teoeo wrote:the LR is good, the RC not so much. I'd say LR and LG are taught really well, and for RC you are on your own.
OP. You have a shot, but you will have to work extremely hard from now until the test. But yes, there is hope. A 180 is extremely unlikely, but in the 160's is definitely possible.

I got a 149 on my diagnostic. I took a Kaplan course(I'm sure Testmasters is just as good if not better as I know people who did both and said they would just do Testmasters if they could just pick one). I got a 161. I definitely could have done better and I only blame myself for not doing better as I really didn't go above and beyond the MINIMUM expectations of the course, which definitely isn't enough to excel on the LSAT IMO.

My diagnostic score was about the same as yours with the same sectional profile. I'm shooting for the December test.
I don't think you should be too concerned about the score itself. Since timing was an issue, it probably doesn't accurately reflect your true starting state.
Reading Comprehension has become a nagging concern. It's the hardest section to improve on. I'm supplementing my regular practice with regular doses of online reading-- papers and magazines like The Economist and Scientific American. And not just washing passages with eye movement, but active reading!
I've heard of 15-20 point improvements, and reaching the low 170's or high 160's should definitely be possible.
Good luck.

My first cold test was a 143. My PT average was a 167 after a few months of study. I wound up with a 165 on the real thing. If you are willing to work you can improve.

Definitely inspirational. But yeah I'm reading to give it my all. Thanks for the help everyone.thegrayman wrote:I got a 149 cold, took the testmasters course. I ended up postponing until Oct because I wasn't making the kind of gains I wanted. I am now doing 2 PT's a week, staying between 168-174. RC is where I have had the most difficulty, all other sections are very learnable. You just have to realize that in order to improve you need to absolutely kill yourself each day, study your ass off like you've never studied before.

Yes, you can definitely make it into the 160s or even 170s. But you need to read Pithypike's thread on the LSAT and create a structured study plan NOW. Good luck.
