Re-doing PT's

Post by dawb » Fri Jul 09, 2010 12:14 am

I'm retaking in October and I want to redo PT's 53-59 and the superprep tests to prepare, but Im wondering if my previous exposure to the questions will affect my score when i retake it and artificially raise my score giving me a false sense of comfort.

Can anyone who has redone PT's weigh in on this?

I'm retaking the test so, I've seen a lot of the questions before. Sometimes I get a sense of deja vu, but usually not enough to help. Usually more like, "Crap, this game was really hard." It's possible that my subconscious is helping me out, but I don't think so. My scores on ones I've taken before are about the same as the new ones I've never seen.

If it's been a while since you've seen them, I think you'd be ok. Try to take a few new ones if you want to double check.

When prepping I did a few repeat PT's, the only questions I really remembered were LG's which is actually fine because you should do every game three times anyway.

I've redone tests, first pass, mostly around 172-174. Second pass, 177-180. I ended up with a 176. Yes, it helps reinforce your thinking.

I think the only way it can hurt is if your memory of some questions is so good that you are able to immediately locate the correct answer, thereby allowing you to take more time on the rest of your questions and throwing off your timing. If you're finding that this happens, then maybe you should reduce the amount of time per section by a couple minutes or so to compensate. I find this happens once in a while, but if there is a span of a few months between tests and you've only seen them once, I seriously doubt this will be an issue. I can't see any other drawbacks to redoing PTs and is why I have the same plan for Oct.

Yeah, I definitely get the deja vu sense, but I can never remember a) what answer I chose the first time and b) what the right answer was. Though a lot of the time I can remember the stimulus as I begin to read it, which helps somewhat in the fact that I find myself able to skim on some of the questions. So far however, I'm finding that my timing is staying pretty consistent - about where it was before June.

Though so far one week with the Bible has slightly decreased the number of LR questions I'm getting wrong. Hoping three months and I will be missing less than 4 a section. I've lost some on RC after the break I took after June LSAT and retake preparation. Hopefully I can gain it back.

I've taken PT #7 and PT #19 - 165's on both of them, so scoring about the same/slightly higher than I was before June where I got a lot of 164's before the test.
