Best test prep book available: THE SECRET

Post by LSAC Proctor » Mon Jul 05, 2010 2:03 pm

I just came across an awesome new test prep book similar to Kaplan 180 called The Secret. It's similar because it will help you get a 180 no matter yout PT scores.

It involves visualization and mental rehearsal and The Secret has even been profiled on television.

It's so comprehensive that I'm selling all my powerscore and Kaplan books dirt cheap.

I will score a 180 in October.

this book sounds like a huge logical flaw.

The Review "They" Don't Want You To Read, March 6, 2007
By longhorn24 "longhorn24" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Secret (Hardcover)
Catchy review title? Thought so. Robert Cialdini, renowned psychology researcher and author of Influence: The Power of Persuasion (perhaps the best book ever written on the subject) identifies six basic rules employed by politicians, advertisers and scam artists alike to persuade others. Each of them are employed quite adeptly by Rhonda Byrne in this book.

Cialdini's first principle is SCARCITY; people want what's expensive, exculsive, or otherwise attainable. Byrne's mastery of this principle is clearly shown by the very name of the book: The Secret. We all learned this the first week of kindergarten as we felt the jealousy of watching two classmates, hands cupped over ears, sharing a secret out of earshot.

This message is reinforced throughout the book and its advertising campaign which pitches "The Secret" (whatever it actually is) as jealousy-guarded information hoarded by the happy, wealthy and successful. Whenever someone tries convincing you of something, whether it's a way to make enormous sums of money, to lose weight, etc - be wary of when it's pitched as "the knowledge THEY don't want you to have." Think about it - everything from the "secrets that Wall Street doesn't want you to know" to "uncovered - celebrities' secrets to staying young" are phrased not simply to pique your interest but to make you jealous. Appeals to our emotion are far more powerful than appeals to reason, and Byrne demonstrates mastery of this principle throughout "The Secret."

blah blah blah you get the idea.

It gives you a placebo effect. Its nice for well being, but not too sure it can do much when it comes for the LSAT.

Yes, who knew that it was as easy as "If you think about wealth, you will receive wealth". "If you think about a 180, you will receive a 180."
All you have to do is think in harmony with the frequency of something, and you attract it to you. Honestly, your retarded thought process must be attracting shitty ideas and this is how you have arrived at posting this thread. gtfo.

Are you one of those proctors who screws up and gives people either 25 or 40 minutes per section, but never the right amount?

If you are talking about The Secret with Bob Proctor and others, you are delusional. It is simply a motivational book disquised as a neurolinguistic programming book.

Nothing in there is unique or even that valuable. If you want to know what it was taken from, Read "Think and Grow Rich." At least that was a seminal work. If you need more motivation, for
$1,000 per year, I will put you in touch with someone who will write a daily motivational message for you.

Frankly, motivational seminars are a HUGE waste, and sadly they are a big business. I guess many folks are very depressed about their lives so they need a glimmer of hope and happiness. Thus, they pay a fortune for these few moments when someone tells them that their life doesn't suck and they can be great people. I have found that if you are not self-motivated, no outside person can motivate you with a few days of seminars. The book is at best delusional and at worst outright dangerous because it avoids dealing with the real sources behind the problems. It encourages victim blaming and culture wide flight from reality that suggests that failure is a result of not trying hard enough or not believing enough. However, sadly, too many people never learn this and pay tens of thousands of dollars for this type of scam. It is very sad.

I was going to suggest that you shouldn't sell your Powerscore materials so quickly. However, if you are taking the LSAT in October, which is the same time as my son, please throw away your Powerscore books and read The Secret multiple times as you skip merrily along some nice pasture; however, make sure that you believe hard enough. This way, you won't hurt the curve. Moreover, if you are not "for real," I apologize for taking your seriously.

You should stop living vicariously through your son. He's taking the LSAT and you're on an LSAT message board??? Time to take the diapers off.

I think about sex with Jessica Alba every night and she still hasn't shown up at my doorstep. The Secret lied to me.

So you admit that you are gay, your life has been a failure, your son is an unfocused drug user and you are disappoint.

LSAC Proctor, you will make a great lawyer. You already know the golden rule of litigation: When the facts are on your side, argue the facts. When the law is on your side, argue the law. If neither is on your side, "baffle them with bullshit." It is an oldie but a goodie.
