Re: Retaking October Thread
Just signed up for the retake! Ordered the bibles, as last test I only used superpred. I'm hoping I have time to study more, this time!

Re: Retaking October Thread
This may be a dumb question, but I have been full of them recently . Of the LSAC's "10 Actual" books, which one has the most recent tests in it? I missed a tooooon of LG questions in June and did -3 at worst on the other sections so I need to really pick up the LG score this time around. I have all of the Kaplan books because I took their one month cram course right before the June test. I'm thinking I'll buy the Powerscore LG Bible and maybe two of the 10 Actual LSAT books for this second time around. Any other suggestions for LG studying?

The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests is the newest book of 10. It contains exams 29-38. I've got a list of all the PrepTests that may answer other questions about them.
The LG Bible, doing LGs by type, and redoing LGs will help.
Definitely focus on LG, but also do LR and RC so you don't get rusty on those.

Looks like we'll all be here a bit longer than we may have liked. The last section on the RC screwed me over: every question wrong... When the proctor called 5 minutes and I had just started reading the passage, my mind kinda shut off... Oh well, here we go again!

Re: Retaking October Thread
Retaking in October as well - I was getting between 167 and 173 on all my practice tests (I took over 25 of them, as well as Testmasters a year ago.) Nerves must have owned me, I ended up with a 162. LGs was generally -2 or -1 on every PT I took, but was -9 on the real thing (unreal). Needless to say, I was very, very disappointed in my performance. I already took the test October '08 and cancelled, and will be retaking in October, but I'm worried that a cancel + 162 + ___ is going to be a tough sell for t14 schools. (I'm shooting for Georgetown).

Re: Retaking October Thread
Hey guys, so I thought I would ask here as well as ask my advisor as I like tons of input. For my two target schools I am 2 points below median in one and one point below at the other. GPA is above both's 75% and I am instate at both. I was wondering if I should apply mid September and have my new score sent or if I should wait until I get the score in October and then send the application once I see the score even though I'd apply with either score. What scares me is I'm afraid I'll just get the flat "no" or the grand WL because I'm below median before they ever see the new score. What would you/are you doing in this situation? Thanks so much!

I'm in a similar situation! Above 75% for GPA, right at (or one point below depending where you look) LSAT Median, also instate! I decided to retake because I did not study much for the first one, and will probably cancel (2-3 weeks before) if I feel I am not ready. I also am wondering when to apply, so i'd like to hear the same responses you get!alicrimson wrote:Hey guys, so I thought I would ask here as well as ask my advisor as I like tons of input. This is just my opinion of course, but you have to keep in mind that the median is just that--the middle. Both of you technically qualify for positions on the other side. And, major plus for being above the 75th for GPA...
With that said, I think it's awesome you're both retaking, too. It shows initiative on your part. Plus, you qualify yourselves for possible scholarships. Personally, I would submit my application early, and let them know you're retaking. I cannot imagine an outright reject. It's too close to the median...

Re: Retaking October Thread
I’m still undecided. My medical deferment for the Peace Corps ends on July 1st so that’s my #1 priority for the month, if I end up leaving the country this summer I’ll be retaking (maybe) in June 2011, so I’m in no rush. If that doesn’t work out then I’ll have to make a decision on whether I want to do an October retake and submit applications this fall.
I'm one of those good at RC/bad at LG people. If I were to retake I think I would need some kind of tutor or professional help with LG, because it’s clear that my self-studying wasn’t enough. If I were able to get that consistently to -3 or less I think a retake would serve me pretty well. My GPA hasn’t been calculated by the LSAC yet but it’s 3.6 atm which would look much better with a 170 instead of my 167.

Re: Retaking October Thread
This is what I plan on discussing with my advisor. Also, most apps say to state when your LSAT takes are. I plan on writing the October take and where it says score, writing TBD. Unless I am guiding otherwise by the schools I am applying to/the prelaw advisor.coffeeonthepatio wrote:How would you go about that? Addendum?lparker wrote:...let them know you're retaking. As far as letting them know you're retaking... I am very much interested in attending the University of Alabama so that's the application process I'm most familiar with. This is what their website says:
After I apply, may I retake the LSAT? Yes. Please contact the Admissions Office and inform the staff if you are retaking the test.
I imagine it would be similiar at other schools? And, you could always just call and ask...

Re: Retaking October Thread
I'm joining this club too. I averaged 173/174 on on my practice tests, and even managed a 179 on one of them. Screwed up pretty bad on LG and RC (ran out of time and had to rush), though I did well on both LR sections. Ended up with a 167. I feel like I can definitely get a 175 in October. My GPA is 3.9. I'm hoping for UC Berkeley or Stanford...
This time I'm going to focus all my practice towards finishing every section with at least 5 minutes to spare, because on the actual test day I took a lot longer than I did during practice. Just bought all the recent practice tests and gonna buy the LR bible. Probably will redo the LG bible also. May consider renewing my subscription to the Economist. Ha.
Good luck to everyone!

I'm not even going to bother applying until I have the numbers I'm looking for. Something about it just wouldn't feel right. I guess I'd like to have a little pride when submitting my application. As my numbers currently stand, there's no room for pride.

Just signed up for Blueprint: The Movie, pretty pumped because it looks like a good program and kinda funny too. I have a score that gets me into some places I am looking at, but for scholly reasons I am retaking in October.

Re: Retaking October Thread
Not sure if anyone's in a similar retake boat like me. Got a 154 in Dec '09, 158 this past June '10, and going in for 3rd round in October '10. I'm not sure how to change up my game plan though, since what I've been doing hasn't really been working as effectively as I had hoped. I actually took the BP Movie course for the June test too, and I'm considering buying and going over the bibles this time around, but I'm not sure if that's even effective for me at this point.
After having studied twice for this test, I'm not sure how to approach it this time.

It's official.
I just ordered the LGB (because I wasn't smart enough to get the LG on my own -7 sorta sucked when I had averaged -3 on the last 20 LG, but this time I'm aiming for -1/0 and in 30 minutes. If I'm good enough, the nerves won't matter)
And I signed up.

Same here. I averaged -2 on games in PTs and I missed 9 in June. WTF?

Re: Retaking October Thread
hello. In a similar position it seems as most of you, took it in June without very much prep, took about 10 practice tests scored in the upper 160's-mid-170's, got a 163 in June (blurg.) I just ordered the LR bible, and the 3 Actual test prep books. Any ideas on how else to study? I got a -5 on LR & RC, -4 on LG so it looks like i'm pretty evenly dumb in those areas.
also, same question as above kinda--if i apply before my scores come in how do i make SURE my june score isn't the only thing they look at?

You can submit your apps before your LSAT score comes in, but if you have a previous LSAT score on record, *be sure to tell schools not to look at the applications until the new score comes in.*lastch2 wrote:same question as above kinda--if i apply before my scores come in how do i make SURE my june score isn't the only thing they look at?
The risk is that the school might mistakenly look at the application with the prior LSAT score and reject you without waiting to consider the newer score (even though you've told them - they're busy and stuff can get lost or forgotten). Once rejected in a cycle, that's it for the cycle.
I suggest you make sure that everything else in the application is complete around the time LSAT scores are released (in order to allow you to submit your app as early as possible - since law school is conducted on a rolling admission basis).
However, to be on the safe side, you may want to hold back on something crucial to your application, like your personal statement, until the new LSAT score is released. This way, you ensure that they don't mistakenly consider your application without the new score.

Get this... 162 on the June 2010 LSAT. Just took my first PT and haven't looked at it in over a month and got a 172. Fuck my life.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
