All of this waiting is driving me insane.
I'm new here (well, I've lurked for awhile but joined only recently) and felt the need to share this with people who might understand. I am going crazy waiting for my June score, and I woke up to this email this morning:
Word of the Day for Friday, June 25, 2010
cakewalk \KEYK-wawk\, noun:
1. Something easily accomplished.
2. A 19th-century African-American tradition in which walkers performing the most accomplished or amusing steps won cakes as prizes.
3. The music that accompanies such a competition.
This will be a cakewalk, I tell myself, even though I'm up against a pair of convicted killers.
-- Kurt Streeter, "Tennis is serious sport in San Quentin Prison", Los Angeles Times, May 2010
Though it may be baffling to consider, watching you grow up isn't necessarily a cakewalk for your parents.
-- Melissa Kirsch, The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything
The origin of cakewalk lies in the 19th century African-American tradition where a cake was given as a prize for the fanciest steps in a procession. The phrases "piece of cake" and "take the cake" may derive from the cakewalk.
Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Now the world is just messing with me.

I've got nothing really to add to that other than that exact same thing happened to me.

Is this a version of the cakewalk? And wasn't the cakewalk the topic of one of the PT RC sections - I think somewhere in the 40's??balzern wrote:--ImageRemoved--

Thanks, I knew I read about it recently and I remember thinking that it was kind of interesting b/c I never knew what the term meant.LSAT Blog wrote:Emmae wrote: Is this a version of the cakewalk? And wasn't the cakewalk the topic of one of the PT RC sections - I think somewhere in the 40's??

Why would it be racist? The picture isn't showing up on my computer... maybe that's the key.

Why would it be racist? - if it is, then the LSAC is racist for putting a racist subject (Cakewalk) on the June 2008 test.
