Another canel thread.... sorry
I got my heart set on HYS. My GPA is 3.87. First LSAT was a 170. I was going for 175+ and according to my PTs was fully capable of getting it. Unfortuanatly on the test I screwed up one of the games, which forced my to guess on 6 (something that hardly ever happened to me before). Other than that the test went really well. Finished LR several minutes earlier for both sections. Finished RC on time but had to semi-guess on 2 or 3 questions, which is quite norman for me.
Overall, I feel like I got something very close to 170 once again.. maybe plus or minus 2 or 3 points.
I'm planning in retaking if I get anything below 174. So its likely that I will be retaking.
My question for you guys is this:
How much different will HYS look at 170, 170, 175 versus 170, cancel, 175?
Also how would this look: 170, 168, 175 and 170, 172, 175?
Would you cancel in my situation?
Edit: I'm also still on WL at Stanford for this cycle so a higher score in June might bump me up alittle there.

We're all second guessing ourselves because we're used to being able to score our PTs right after we take them. Never do we have to wait 3 weeks to see our PT scores or we might "cancel" those too.
Chances are that you did better than 170.
Have faith in yourself.

Ragged, you've been around a while and have great #'s regardless. At this point, things are what they are. Take the score and move on. You're going to be great wherever you end up!!Ragged wrote:Thx Tom. Any others takers to help a brother out?

Take what I'm about to say as my impression from the board about multiple LSAT's and HYS (I could be wrong and I'm not sure if definitive proof exists one way or the other).
I actually feel like you might have a reason cancel. I'm assuming that you were averaging 175-177ish on PT's (unsure what you meant by your PT's meant you were fully capable of getting it). I would say that guessing on 6 questions you can hope that you got 1-2 right at best. This means that you are doing 4 questions worse than you normally do. Factor that in with test day nerves dropping your score another couple points and I would say you are realistically looking at a 168-170.
Since a lot of people say that HYS look at all the scores, I think they would look more favorably upon 170, cancel, 175 than 170, 168-170, 175 (though this is just an intuition and not fact). Of course there are examples where certain schools don't downrank a candidate by much because of multiple LSAT's, but people seem to feel that it is the norm.
The way I see it is that a 168-170 (which feels like your score) won't help you and has a chance of hurting you. Though there is a a chance at a 172, that is what might push me to saying you should not cancel. Considering if you don't get higher than a 170 in October, then won't the schools find it odd that you are reapplying without a significant change in your app?
Honestly, it is probably not huge either way. If we're talking fractions of a percent chance at hurting your app then I would say cancel, but there is also the chance of a small 170+. I think you should choose the option that you would be most okay living with in worst case scenario land. Would you rather get it back and have a 168, wondering if that hurts your reapplication? Or would you rather not get it back and wonder if the cancel hurt your app and always wonder about the possibility that you got a 172 or so?

Those are all valid points, bk. The way I see it. If I do get a 175 in October I will have a shot at Harvard either way. If I don't then I won't have a chance either way. Difference between 168 and 172 in June should only marginally affect my chances.bk187 wrote:Take what I'm about to say as my impression from the board about multiple LSAT's and HYS (I could be wrong and I'm not sure if definitive proof exists one way or the other).

Way more succinct way of putting it than my long-winded, rambling post. In light of this I would say: maybe you should keep it because you may have gotten superbly lucky on guessing (unlikely but at least possible), since the amount it hurts your app will most likely be marginal (you're already a multiple LSAT taker, can't change that at this point, which is where I think the slight minus to your app would come in at HYS).Ragged wrote:Those are all valid points, bk.
