Would you cancel?
PT Average: 172.5
Previous LSATs: None
What you think you'll get on this LSAT: 165-170 -- PT average is usually due to -0 LG
But in June in: Got destroyed by the fourth game in LG (guessed on three), then let it hurt my confidence on the second LR section. My brain was off after the break, I barely remember the fourth and fifth sections.
GPA: 3.99
Aiming for: T10

Re: Would you cancel?
You were lucky to only guess on three on the last game. I think you have a real chance of 170+ even if you missed more questions on the last two sections. Don't cancel.

Nearly all schools only care about highest score, no reason to cancle. Bag your 165+ and retake if necessary.

unless you're absolutely dead-set on HYS, don't cancel.
even if you end up with a mediocre score (by your own standards), you can always re-test if you feel it necessary. your high gpa will save you a few places, i wouldn't be surprised to see berkeley bite even if you score on the low end of your projection.

By guess I mean select B randomly because I didn't have time.Ragged wrote:You were lucky to only guess on three on the last game. I think you have a real chance of 170+ even if you missed more questions on the last two sections. Don't cancel.

I'd cancel honestly. The question is really "could I do worse than this in October?" If the answer is no, don't waste that GPA, because even a 174 could get you HYS and those schools really do care about multiple scores.

But he only guessed on 3. Thats nothing. There is no garantee that there won't be a tough game on October. Then he might have to guess on more.d34dluk3 wrote:I'd cancel honestly. I know I only guessed on three, but the fact that it threw me off for sections four and five is what gives me pause.Ragged wrote:But he only guessed on 3. Thats nothing. Hmm.. do you think you did badly on 4-5? Were their instances when you didn't know the answer and had to semi-guess? How many?
I'm in the same situation as you. I had to guess on 7 on games and was shellshoked for a while but I feel like I recouped pretty well. At least well enough to still have hope of 170+.
You are the only who can make this judgement, but I wouldn't cancel if all you realisticly need for T10 is a 170 with such a kickass GPA.

Re: Would you cancel?
i had 1 PT at 170 (with -7 in LG) and one at 172, both within a week of the test. i had a bunch of other scores around 167.
i guessed (randomly) on 7 LG questions and think i did well on the other three sections. i remember feeling good about my 4th and 5th sections. i don't really remember my first LR, but i know i wasn't feeling bad after it...i think i know i missed one question, though, the one about money and choosing a job. other than that, i don't remember anything crazy.
i'm not gonna cancel.

Re: Would you cancel?
It you were knocking out scores in the 170's, and consistently, you probably did much better than you think.
You don't score in the 170's on a constant basis and not know your stuff. I don't care how stressed you may have been on guessing a mere 3 questions, you most likely did much better on the other 2 sections after the games, than you think. If you know the material (which you do) you're not going to bomb 2 sections that you generally ace.
DON'T CANCEL.

Re: Would you cancel?
I took that Dino LSAT in '09. I had LG for the FIRST section of my test. Needless to say, I royally f-ed that game up. I was thinking about it for the next two sections.
After thinking about it long and hard, I didn't cancel.
I got a 174. -4 on Dinos. I got more questions wrong on that stupid game than the rest of the test. I remember blindly guessing on three of those.
The moral of the story: I think you might surprise yourself.

Re: Would you cancel?
I'd say depends on your goals, but if I were you, I would definitely be shooting for HYS. In my opinion, if your 172 was due to constantly perfect LG sections, and you actually had to guess on a few, I'd say your score is very likely to be a few points lower than your average. I personally wouldn't risk it. In fact, I was in your shoes awhile back when I had to guess on 4 Qs...

If you're dead set on HYS then cancel. If not, I think you'll be fine getting into any of the other top 10 with that GPA. You still have a decent shot at coming out with a 170+ on your June test.

Re: Would you cancel?
If I got a 166 on the June test, and Harvard's median is a 174 (not sure if that's true), would I need a 182 for my average to be at their median?

Re: Would you cancel?
Techniclly yes. But people with 166-175 have been known to make it. They might look at both scores but they only have to report the highest.RonandRand2012 wrote:If I got a 166 on the June test, and Harvard's median is a 174 (not sure if that's true), would I need a 182 for my average to be at their median?
