June 2010 Logic Games have me feeling very bitter...

Post by pbmoore » Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:42 am

I have to say I was shocked at how excruciatingly difficult the logic game questions were! I had a panic attack and just could not focus for the life of me. Truthfully, it is likely I did WORSE on the LG today than I did on my first diagnostic test.

But what has left me the MOST bitter is that LGs appeared second in my test. I was so shellshocked by this section (I would have never expected it being this hard) that I know it affected my speed and accuracy in every following section. I was left feeling somewhat in a daze. I am beating myself up over it because I have told myself over and over again not to be preoccupied with previous sections, but damn, the LG were unrelenting.

Anyone else left feeling the same way?

I had a panic attack as well, but it didn't settle in until the last game. That game destroyed me.

The funny thing is, I had the right interpretation of the rule on the last game, but I'm such an idiot, the way I symbolized it made me look at it in the wrong way. I completely fucked myself over.

I'm hoping for a generous curve, safe to say anything less than 163 and I'll be joining you.

I feel exactly like you! I wrote this elsewhere, but I had the LG second and had a panic attack. Literally... hyperventilating, numb hands and feet, dizziness. I'm pretty bitter, as I put in 40 hours a week of studying since February. When I got home, I initially cried, but then I just got angry. I feel especially so, as I had banked on a good LSAT score to help me move forward professionally, as I got laid off from my job. Now I have no job and a sucky LSAT score.

AH! I thought the exact same thing, I freaked out when I saw the games section and definitely thought that I did better even on my diagnostic...the whole time I was hoping it would be experimental and then just lost hope. How generous do you think the curve will be?

Same thing. I felt I got hit by a baseball bat to the back of the head after the 4th game. Luckily it was my third section so I had 15 minutes to think about it and calm down. The only good thing about it as that I managed to keep my composure pretty well I do pretty well on the other two sections (I think).

Thank the lord i am not alone out there. Games are my strong point where I always know i can gain the most points, but i just felt like crying after it was done. These games was nothing like i was used to seeing or even expecting. I dont feel so bad any more know. I am just curious how helpful this curve can be.. anyone have any ideas?

I don't understand what a "curve" means. When people throw around "-12", what are they talking about?

The -12 refers to the number of questions you can miss to get a 170, which for whatever reason is the score they've decided to describe the curve by.

depending on how many people get a certain question wrong or right the test will be curved. (i think thats how it works) for example you get 75 questions right. on one test your score might be greater and on another test you might get exactly 75 questions right again but because of the curve your score will be lower.

I normally score in the 168-172 range on practice tests and depend on -0 for LG. However, I guessed on about all of the questions on the last game. I am seriously considering canceling my score. However, I also want to see my result to refine my study plan for the October exam. What should I do???

Well. Sorta... They have a pre-determined "difficulty value" for each question and use it to determine the test's overall difficulty in advance of the administration. How many people get the questions right/wrong on the day of the test doesn't matter--it's how people did on the questions when they were used in earlier experimental sections. That overall difficulty score for the test is what determines the "curve."

(Yes, this is an obscene oversimplification of the way they do the equating. But it's the basic outline of the process.)

I guess that depends on the schools you plan on applying too and if they take the average score of both your tests. i would suggest to wait, you never know. I am in the same predicament. Not sure if i should cancel already.

I had LG-LR-LG and killed the first LG. The wording on the LR section was kinda funky and I thought for sure it was the experimental (I still tried my hardest cuz you never know) and I crapped myself for about 10 seconds when I saw more LG in section 3. But... there really wasn't anything to do about it except hunker down and get that shit done, which was what I did. I wish the first LG had been the real one but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

I actually had a panic attack during the LG, I misread my watch to say there was only 2 minutes left, when there were actually 12. I calmed down, got game number 4 done, and went back and fixed one from the mulch game with a realization I made halfway through the fourth game. Saved my ass.

If I hadn't had that extra 10 minutes, I think it would have ruined my score on the other sections.

That was my exact format! I usually have a rough time with logic games, but I nailed the first LG section. I got to all the questions and I'm almost positive I got them all right. THEN, when I saw section 3 was LG, too, my heart sank. I really think I bombed it. Such a let down because I was so excited after the first section :-(

Ha. A couple of us were having this conversation last night. Hours later I still contend that these games, while harsh in and of themselves, were much harsher for people who got the exp LGs and owned them.

I agree. Not only did we have that false sense of happiness/confidence from the first section, we already did 4 games, then had to do a section from hell.

i really didnt think the last game was that hard, i didnt have to think twice about it but given the number of people who call this last game ridiculous, i'm starting to get worried that i might have missed a rule and done the game entirely wrong.
can someone refresh my memory as to what the game was about? i dont think im breaking the rules because im not asking for individual questions, just what the game was about and (if its ok to share) the rules and the setup. PMing is fine too. but if i really did do the last game completely wrong, i need to cancel asap.

I think the mulch/stone game threw me for a bit, but overall, the section wasn't too terrible. However, I wrote one of the rules wrong for the intern game and only realized until I got to the third question when there were two viable answers. Then I only had 12 minutes left to finish the intern game AND do the mulch game. I definitely panicked and probably didn't do as well as I'd hoped to do on that section. Thinking back though, the mulch game really wasn't difficult with a few hypo's and the intern game was a grouping-defined game, which are usually my favorites aside from in/out games. I think the rules and setup were just a little different, but nothing that was too out of left field.

If I bombed any section though, this would have to be the one. :?
