How does the LSAT waiting list work??

Post by PrayingforHYS » Sat May 08, 2010 11:19 pm

Hey, I put myself on the waiting list for my college about 2 weeks ago, but I'm wondering how the waiting list works. There's also about 5 other locations within 5-10 miles of my college that administer the LSAT, so if they experience an opening, do I get pooled from that list also or do I ONLY get removed from the waiting list if the location I selected has a drop?

Please help. Thanks.

Hey, I am on a wait list for the June test as well. I called because I had the same general question. I was told that you definitely have a spot, however, your spot will either be at a new test center, or if someone drops out.

If someone drops out of a test center in your area or if a new test center opens you will get a spot, but your spot can be anywhere from your desired location or a center that is up to 100 miles away from your desired location.

Good luck

"up to 100 miles away"????? Really??

When I typed in the zip code for my college, there was about 10 schools within 50 miles, so hopefully it won't be anywhere near extreme, but ok, seeing that I definitely have a spot makes me feel a lot better -- and this is all what they told you over the phone?

So how does the waitlist actually work? There's like 5 colleges within 10 miles, so say there's like 20 people total on the waitlist. If I'm #3 on the waitlist and then 3 spots open up at some of those 5 colleges within 10 miles, they'll just put me at one of the testing centers that's next to mine? I'm still not sure I understand how this all works.

As someone who was on a waiting list and got off a few weeks ago, LSAC will send you an email once you've been accepted somewhere.
I don't know what will happen to you but I ended up at a hotel which is five minutes from my house. 8)

that's conveninet. my college is actually about 15-20 minutes from my home, but I'm very comfortable with the building, rooms, environment, etc

The other 5 colleges/law schools in the area that are hosting the test are about the same distance away, so I wouldn't mind being placed at one of those...I just want to know where I'm taking it as soon as possible so I have one less thing to worry about

I still don't understand if there's a giant pool of people on the waiting list for my city or if there's just a waiting list for my particular test center choice and then people get pooled from all over....seems just as confusing as the actual test lol -- if anyone knows exactly how it works, i'd like to hear.
